(No...this isn't that.  Not yet.)  

Yesterday's track, "Garland of Me", was my take on epic shoegaze.  Today probably couldn't be more different than that--it is darkwave synthpop.  

...yep, that's Interbay for you!  

If you like the late 80s through the 90s era Depeche Mode, you should like this track--there's definitely a strong influence from that.  And, honestly, if I thought that I could pull of a Dave Gahan-esque vocal out of myself, I'd have sung this instead of getting Tim Eleven for some spoken word assistance here.  I tried to do what I could to make those vocals sound more interesting, but I wouldn't be surprised if I revisit this track some time in the future, when I'm more confident about my own vocals again.  (I will NEVER sound like Gahan, but I think I'm still capable of singing on an Interbay track.)  

I was thinking about all of the cruel and heartless decisions being made by people who have been empowered to be selfish and desperate to please the worst of us (in other words, Modern America)...and I started getting agitated about how long it was going to take to rebuild back to where we were, when this fevered madness finally breaks...and some competence and humanity returns both to governance and to businesses.  

It hit me that it would be easier, at this point, to build a time machine to somehow stop this worst timeline before it branched.  And that's the theme of the song--with the upshot being, this is not really a recent problem.  This is a problem that has been festering for a lot longer than any of us would care to admit.  

So, you couldn't just go back to yesterday, you'd have to go back to yesteryear.  

(It doesn't really make sense unless you either think of it in the abstract or you only care about the effort to be clever, not necessarily accurate.)  

Now, I am cautioned because the very people who are in charge of our nightmare ALSO would like to turn back the clocks...but to an imagined past that never really existed the way they think it did.  ("Hey, why isn't it exactly like Happy Days???")  

I do not want to live in the past.  I like to think about sneaking back to the past to improve our present and our future.  All that seems to be slipping through our fingers, all while we're being laughed at for pointing this fact out.  

...so, yeah, sounds like perfect darkwave material!  

I've had the 90% of the music done for this track and was just waiting for the right words to make it post-worthy...and I think I've done that (though, again, it would be better with sung, not spoken, vocals...but I'm still building myself up for getting myself back on the mic.)
