With 44 releases across 12 years since its inception, Butane’s infamous Alphahouse imprint closes its doors this June as he welcomes long time colleagues and friends Alexi Delano and Worldline to shape up the final EP on the label ‘Omega’.

Having established the imprint back in 2005, Andrew Rasse aka Butane’s Alphahouse has served as an example of unapologetic underground quality and curation for over a decade. With previous releases from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Ryan Crosson, Ion Ludwig, Quenum, Mark Broom and of course Rasse himself, the final Alphahouse EP welcomes back another staple of the imprints success, Chilean Alexi Delano, and mysterious American talent Worldline who marks his debut on the label.

“Sometimes in order to grow, you have to leave things behind. It’s time for a fresh start… the final Alphahouse record. Alpha/Omega” – Butane.

The A-side sees Delano and Rasse effortlessly re-combine and pick up where they left off in 2013. ‘Bass Theory’ is an energetic, blooming production that lays the focus on raw crunchy drum licks, chunky bass slabs and an ever evolving melody that eases listeners into a state of trance, before ‘Jazz Lick’ reveals a lighter aesthetic with a delicate jazz-infused lead line, filtered vocal loops and crisp organic percussion that hold the production in sync.

On the flip Butane is joined by a new collaborator, Los Angeles-based underground fashion designer Worldline for two brooding cuts. ‘How Deep’ kicks things off showcasing eerie low ends layered beneath tripped out vocals and hypnotic, meandering chords. ‘What We Do’ wraps up the esteemed Alphahouse catalog in style. An underground manifesto with a trademark Butane groove and Wordline’s vocals punctuating over a decade of work. That’s a wrap.

In true Alphahouse style, Rasse signs off here alongside two extremely talented artists with an EP that radiates understated sophistication and intricacy throughout, whilst opening the door to his new project ‘Extrasketch’ in the most fitting and suitable way imaginable. Stay tuned; this is only just the beginning…

Fourteen years in the making, a thread of mystery weaves its way through the tapestry of this melancholic LP. It’s a true journey through a sublime sonic soundscape. Opening track Adormecido is shrouded in mystery, closely followed by Miso Drunky with its tribal drums and dramatic synth stabs. Kaléidoscope bubbles up next, swiftly followed by Tilt with its genteel cowbell. Then comes Año Uno the first track created back in 2004 with its impressive church-like bells. Suki Ni is twinkling and sublime that flows into the delicate groove of Let It Slide, which samples an ambient rain storm. The album closes on La Sandunga gracefully littered with plentiful percussion. 

Of the album, the pair explain how they were “raised on old technology and integrated the newer technology in our everyday lives as it was developing” a fact that is clearly apparent upon listening to the album. They give a sonic hat tip to their “love of melancholic melodies….almost always rooted in the past, but to us, no time is attached. Are the new machines dreaming about the past, or are the new ones contemplating the future that lays ahead?”. The album proves their ability to fuse the new with the old to create an album bursting with timeless tracks. 

Ernesto Ferreyra and Guillaume Coutu Dumont’s ​partnership is a true meeting of musical minds. Their first release was gifted to us way back in 2005- the Conexión Califa EP released on German imprint Raum Musik. Since then they’ve released on Musique Risquée as well as a previous EP on Crosstown Rebels. Individually, they’ve released a plethora of music with Ferreyra also heading up his own label Loosen Up Records and Guillaume signing music to Musique Risquée amongst others.

With over two decades of experience in the house and techno industry, Canadian artist Nitin Kalyan has established himself as a highly skilled and polished DJ on the global touring circuit.  His story begins with Detroit, as the sounds of the Motor City emanated through his radio growing up in London, Ontario, which left an indelible imprint and inspired him to pursue a career in music.  Record shopping in Detroit led to a meeting with Mike Huckaby and Nitin subsequently playing the legendary club Shelter at the age of 17.

From throwing parties in his hometown, to relocating to Toronto in 2005, Nitin bolstered his DJ skills with regular gigs and became a prominent promoter in both London and Toronto.  Shortly after, he was not only touring across much of North America, but also began making visits to Europe, and now plays frequently at some of the globe’s most legendary clubs, including DC-10 (Ibiza), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Fabric (London, UK), Output (NYC), Warung (Brazil), Stereo (Montreal) and Nordstern (Basel).

Along with his dynamic DJ sets, Nitin also runs the highly regarded record labels No. 19 and Social Experiment with Art Department’s Jonny White.  The labels are renowned for their forward thinking, avant-garde takes on house and techno, signing music from both established artists as well as nurturing new talent.  As a producer, Detroit’s influence remains present in Nitin’s sound, with some of his recent original productions and remixes coming out on My Favorite Robot, Leftroom, and of course, his own imprint No.19.
