With more than 35 years of DJing and music collecting between them, these fellas dug deep in their collections to pull tracks for Gotcha Covered and spent months mixing, cutting and blending together more than 90 covers spanning Funk, Soul, Jazz, Afrobeat, Latin, Bossa Nova, Boogaloo, Reggae, Steel-Drum Band, Brass Band, R&B and Hip-Hop, to name a few. Welcome to New Orleans: A tribute to New Orleans Funk and Soul is the work of New Orleans native, DJ Personify. Raised in the Crescent City, the die-hard Hip-Hop fan learned early on that many of the samples he discovered originated in New Orleans. He soon became infatuated with the Funk and Soul music recorded there and has spent the better part of the last twenty years immersed in the culture of those records. Personify’s passion for New Orleans' music and culture extends to the present day and is manifested in this DJ mix masterpiece. Lovingly compiled, all of the artists featured on the mix are native to New Orleans with the exception of Hugo Montenegro who plays alongside Al Hirt (a New Orleans native) and The Headhunters, who are included here because of their work with Bill Summers (a life-long New Orleanian). All songs and samples used on this mix were recorded from vinyl sources. Nu-Mark began DJing at the age of 13 in Los Angeles. Over the last two decades, he has amassed an immense collection of rare records from around the world.  Nu-Mark’s refined music production and live showmanship regard him as one of the most innovative DJ’s in music culture.
 
As a member of the critically acclaimed, gold-selling Hip-Hop outfit, Jurassic 5, DJ Nu-Mark graced the group with precision production and cutting edge stage routines.  Best known for his production on the raw anthem “What’s Golden” such creativity only hinted at his imagination since Jurassic 5’s breakup in 2006.  In 2013, J5 reunited with a staggering performance at Coachella which featured a gigantic turntable designed and manipulated by Nu-Mark.
 
Nu introduced himself as a solo artist in 2004 with Blend Crafters, an instrumental EP created in the spirit of allowing beats to speak for themselves.  Later that year Hands On, was released as a mix CD that featured Mc’s rhyming in different languages from around the world.    He has remixed songs for Nas & Damian Marley, created tracks for Saturday Night Live’s Lonely Island and constructed the Tropical Funk mix Take Me With You.  Most significantly, after more than three years of brainstorming, experimenting and collaborating, he’s released his critically acclaimed debut album Broken Sunlight, which reveals his influences and innovations into a jaw dropping collection of heart felt music featuring Aloe Blacc, Charles Bradley, Quantic, Large Professor, Bumpy Knuckles, A-Skillz, Tiron & Ayomari and J-Live.
 
Recently Nu-Mark has been widely recognized for filling his entire stage with children’s music toys and playing them as instruments. This Kids Toy Set went viral when Nu-Mark compiled his performances from around the world in his DVD Nu-Conduit.
 
To date, Nu-Mark has been featured in the critically acclaimed documentaries Scratch, KeepinTime, Coachella: The Movie,Rock the Bells – The Documentary and Mac Grubber.  In 2013 Nu-Mark created original beats and co-scored both Battle Of The Year starring Chris Brown and Ride Along staring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.
 
Today Nu-Mark has completed a collaborative album with Slimkid3 of Pharcyde which features songs that include Murs, Del, Diamond D, Darondo and J-Live, set to be released on Delicious Vinyl in the summer of 2014.  Stay tuned!

This is a 10 minute mini mix created as part of a larger 'Diss' mix collaboration on the ninjatune forum - the intro includes several forum regulars (at the time) who I dissed, before going onto mix a few hip hop and down beat tunes. The mix was created in 2004 and was a lot of fun.

A very short Scratch mix made as part of the Ninjatune Forum Scratch mix - a group of DJs each made 2 - 3 mins of scratching styles/mixes and then these were all pasted together to form a full mix. For my section (which was used as the intro) I scratched some 'filthy' samples and made the xxx edit.

A 2009 mix I knocked up using some of my old Jungle, Techno & Hardcore records - I don't play these records very often anymore so it was a lot of fun. It won't be to everyone's taste, but for those that know it should hit the spot.

One of my most popular mixes to date, with over a 1000 downloads  since it first went online - thanks largely to the excellent delta9 website (http://www.delta-9.net - I think the  first Cut Session might still be available there and another live mix ) - There's a fair bit of three and four deck mixing on this one as I had four turntables set up all the time back then and featured artists include Gangstarr, Mos Def, KRS One, DJ Shadow, Boom Bip, Andy C, Dawn Penn, Chuck D, Prefuse 73, RJD2, TY, J-Zone, Tom & Jerry, Z-Trip, DJ Gunshot and a few more. Little or no scratching on this one as I was concentrating on the mixing this time - hope you like it?

Dusty Donuts #10 Anthology Mix

This is a remix for another project on the ninjatune forum. A second hand compilation was purchased by Monk-A and the tracks uploaded, then various remixers had a go at creating a new track however the rules were quite strict -> No use of synths, drum machines or any samples other than those from the original record.

 This was hard for me as I really like to use synths and I needed some sub sounds and an 808 kick drum to fatten things up (the samples were pretty dusty), however I managed to sample enough to create this track. 

It was mostly made from (1) Ripple "I don't know what it is but it sure is funky", (2) The Boris Gardener Happening  "Melting Pot", (3) Oneness of Juju "African rythms" and (4) Esther Philips "Home is where the hatred is". 

It needs more work, but the deadline is today so I'm going to end it here. Hopefully I'll update this with links to the other remixes once the project is finished.

Break Builders Vol 2

this is Vol 2 in a series of original breaks mixes. 
After finishing Vol 1, DJ Imperial and I had this idea to do a volume 2 using a sampler, and really blurring the lines between what was produced and what was played. When Imperial moved back to Sweden, and using a sampler seemed to be unnecessary with the editing options in what was then new- protools, I stepped up to do Vol 2 w/ one of my favorite DJ's and crate diggers.....DJ Platurn!!! 

Since the previous mix was predominantly live, and with this new concept, Platurn and I found that we were not in jeopardy of reinventing the wheel. We met up, and came to some conclusions...we wanted it to be B Boy/Girl friendly, we werent going to limit what we used to any category, and that we wanted to feature one of our favorite DJ's with the illest cuts DJ Teeko.

This format proved to be really hot, and i dont think we were the only ones to do something like this, but we were definately one of the first, and we were really proud of the end result. Being able to extend and overlap breaks indefinately really is a great way to approach a breaks mix. This is really proven in moments like the Olympic Runners kazoo mashup, or the Ramsey Lewis rock blend. By not limiting the selection to any categories we get edits of newer releases of classics like the Kenny Dope/J5 and its monster drums intro, but without all the excessive parts (the song lol). We also get DJ Teeko just murdering the cuts in moments like the Shadow/Cut Chemist numbers redo.

You can also add in Nu-Mark's own label – Hot Plate Records, which has released a hoard of production collaborations, including his sought after Run For Cover LP in 2021 featuring Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, Full Crate, Jungle Fire, The Traffic and more. Nu brought along Pharcyde’s Slimkid3 under the
faction TRDMRK on two albums featuring Del the Funky Homosapien, Diamond D, Darondo, Guilty Simpson, and Murs which shot to number one on the CMJ charts.
Nu-Mark's ongoing “Zodiac Tracks” is further testament to the fact that music is a life blood for this man. With his unwavering adoration of vinyl, the renowned collector pays homage
to pivotal artists by mixing them seamlessly in their respective astrological sign in live Birthday tribute videos. The project has been so successful that, after reaching millions of views, Nu- Mark teamed up with Method Man (Wu-Tang Clan) for an exclusive song to honor all the astrological signs in a song called “Zodiac Killah”.
Nu has a keen eye for musical evolution. Known for his trademark ability to conjure up sounds from the most bizarre of items, including a collection of children’s toys, late night talk show host and producer James Corden enlisted Nu-Mark to take on the role of in-house DJ for the hit TV show –
