Welcome to New Orleans: A tribute to New Orleans Funk and Soul is the work of New Orleans native, DJ Personify. Raised in the Crescent City, the die-hard Hip-Hop fan learned early on that many of the samples he discovered originated in New Orleans. He soon became infatuated with the Funk and Soul music recorded there and has spent the better part of the last twenty years immersed in the culture of those records. Personify’s passion for New Orleans' music and culture extends to the present day and is manifested in this DJ mix masterpiece. Lovingly compiled, all of the artists featured on the mix are native to New Orleans with the exception of Hugo Montenegro who plays alongside Al Hirt (a New Orleans native) and The Headhunters, who are included here because of their work with Bill Summers (a life-long New Orleanian). All songs and samples used on this mix were recorded from vinyl sources. Nu-Mark began DJing at the age of 13 in Los Angeles. Over the last two decades, he has amassed an immense collection of rare records from around the world.  Nu-Mark’s refined music production and live showmanship regard him as one of the most innovative DJ’s in music culture.
 
As a member of the critically acclaimed, gold-selling Hip-Hop outfit, Jurassic 5, DJ Nu-Mark graced the group with precision production and cutting edge stage routines.  Best known for his production on the raw anthem “What’s Golden” such creativity only hinted at his imagination since Jurassic 5’s breakup in 2006.  In 2013, J5 reunited with a staggering performance at Coachella which featured a gigantic turntable designed and manipulated by Nu-Mark.
 
Nu introduced himself as a solo artist in 2004 with Blend Crafters, an instrumental EP created in the spirit of allowing beats to speak for themselves.  Later that year Hands On, was released as a mix CD that featured Mc’s rhyming in different languages from around the world.    He has remixed songs for Nas & Damian Marley, created tracks for Saturday Night Live’s Lonely Island and constructed the Tropical Funk mix Take Me With You.  Most significantly, after more than three years of brainstorming, experimenting and collaborating, he’s released his critically acclaimed debut album Broken Sunlight, which reveals his influences and innovations into a jaw dropping collection of heart felt music featuring Aloe Blacc, Charles Bradley, Quantic, Large Professor, Bumpy Knuckles, A-Skillz, Tiron & Ayomari and J-Live.
 
Recently Nu-Mark has been widely recognized for filling his entire stage with children’s music toys and playing them as instruments. This Kids Toy Set went viral when Nu-Mark compiled his performances from around the world in his DVD Nu-Conduit.
 
To date, Nu-Mark has been featured in the critically acclaimed documentaries Scratch, KeepinTime, Coachella: The Movie,Rock the Bells – The Documentary and Mac Grubber.  In 2013 Nu-Mark created original beats and co-scored both Battle Of The Year starring Chris Brown and Ride Along staring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.
 
Today Nu-Mark has completed a collaborative album with Slimkid3 of Pharcyde which features songs that include Murs, Del, Diamond D, Darondo and J-Live, set to be released on Delicious Vinyl in the summer of 2014.  Stay tuned!

DJ NU-MARK  BIOGRAPHY

Producer, turntablist and veteran member of the legendary hip hop group Jurassic 5, DJ Nu-Mark is considered one of the most creative on the scene constantly raising the bar of mundane DJ sets. From deploying children's toys, to rocking the largest turntable to ever exist, being original in the cookie cutter world of DJs has never been an issue. From working with legends like Charles Bradley, Aloe Blacc and Method Man, starting his own label, Hot Plate Records, scoring films, creating a viral internet series and landing a spot on prime time TV, he is on his way to becoming a household name and there's no slowing in sight. 

At the age of 13 DJ Nu-Mark became a DJ in the Los Angeles house party circuit. Over the last two decades he has amassed an immense collection of rare records from around the world catapulting him into the critically acclaimed Hip-Hop outfit, Jurassic 5. After releasing a slew of hits and classics with the group he is best known for his production on the raw anthem “What’s Golden” from their Power in Numbers album released in 2002. Even with the wild success of this single it still only gave us a small peak into his expansive imagination.
In 2004 Nu introduced himself as a solo artist with his Blend Crafters EP featuring MF Doom on the opening track, Melody, followed by a classic instrumental cover of John Lennon’s Imagine. He’s remixed songs for Nas & Damian Marley, produced for Saturday Night Live’s Lonely Island and constructed his critically acclaimed debut album Broken Sunlight, which reveals his innovations into a jaw dropping collection of heart felt music featuring Aloe Blacc, Quantic, Large Professor, Bumpy Knuckles, A-Skillz, Tiron & Ayomari, J-Live and Charles Bradley. He’s collaborated with The Pharcyde’s Slimkid3 under the faction TRDMRK on two albums featuring Del the Funky Homosapien, Guilty Simpson, Diamond D, Darondo, Dillon Cooper, and Murs which shot to number one on the CMJ charts.

Nu-Mark has been widely recognized for performing with children’s music toys. His Toy Set went viral when he compiled performances from around the world in his DVD Nu-Conduit. Nu’s Toy Set caught the eye of late night talk show host and producer James Corden, prompting an invitation to be the in- house DJ on the hit television show Drop The Mic hosted by Method Man & Hailey Baldwin. Additionally, the theme song for the show was written and produced entirely by Nu-Mark. To date, Nu-Mark has made appearances in several feature films and documentaries including MacGrubber, Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping, Scratch, KeepinTime, Coachella: The Movie and Rock the Bells – The Documentary. He has earned music production and co-scoring credits for Ride Along 1&2 featuring Kevin Hart & Ice Cube. Most recently Nu-Mark introduced his Zodiac Tracks strictly vinyl mixes where he pays homage to pivotal musicians and artists by mixing them seamlessly in their respective astrological sign in a live birthday tribute video. After reaching millions of views, Nu-Mark teamed up with Method Man for an exclusive song to honor all the astrological signs in a song called Zodiac Killah. Nu will be performing every Zodiac sign live in an all vinyl mix for his release shows coming soon.
