Mixtape 100 “The End”

The summer heat keeps rolling with Kimmah on the series this week. The Rotterdam-based DJ and Pinkman resident has been making a steady set of waves. Named by DJ Mag as an emerging artist in June 2022, she favours higher tempos while delivering fast and funky electro to sweaty dance floors like no other, weaving influences and sounds from her Vietnamese heritage. Since her radio debut in May 2021, it’s been all systems go, with a non-stop string of appearances across the Netherlands’ best clubs, including BIT, Garage Noord, OOST, Perron, PIP and Poing. Whether she's closing Pinkman's 10-year anniversary in Rotterdam last month or closing next week at the lauded DT Camp festival, she's demonstrated a keen ability to deliver a cathartic finale. Lock in for an hour and catch a taste of trademark Kimmah.

By anyone's standards, KI/KI has had a meteoric rise. She started DJing at queer party SPIELRAUM in Amsterdam in 2018, and by now she's one of Europe's most-talked about DJs. She blends modern strands of techno with trance and acid in a way that feels all her own, veering away from the sugar highs of other DJs or the clobbering kick drums of so much fast dance music. Her style is aerodynamic and sleek, not bludgeoning.

In addition to her DJ career, KI/KI runs the label slash, which has put out music from the likes of Alpha Tracks, Peachlyfe and Newa, artists who share her canny blend of trance and techno aesthetics and sneaky pop sensibilities. Acid is another big love, as shown by her 5HRS OF ACID concept. The decades-old sound has become a key part of her style and appeal, as you'll hear on her RA Podcast. It's a barreling 90 minutes through techno and trance with trap and dubstep accents, breathless but perfectly paced.

With her 2020 debut album "Delta Of Venus" still in huge demand sitting on discogs for a keen collectors price it only speaks volumes about Macri's fan base. Having followed up her successful debut with the synth driven "Racing Heart" and the stunning "Always On Time" in more recent years, not to forget most recently her critically acclaimed new EP "Sanctified"; System Olympia has won fans over with her unique ear and keen eye to her sound, each time bringing something new to the table. As well as performing live shows, the artist also enjoys taking punters on journeys in her diverse DJ sets and this is where we move on to the mix. An hour of leftfield disco, rare boogie gems and synthy anthems all mixed to perfection. Pop that bottle of champagne, cue up the system and shine your phone light at the disco ball in your room.
