SlothBoogie Guestmix #102 - Matthieu Faubourg

Tom Jay, a man known to his nearest and dearest affectionately as Noel’ (for his likeness to UK national household name and official game host of Deal or No Deal, Mr Noel Edmonds) steps up for a 2 hour mix. 

Raised on the outskirts of London to a home of a teaching mother and driving instructing Father, Noel had to look beyond his Dad’s glove box for musical inspiration. If you know the man’s sound, then you’re in for a treat, if you don’t know the man’s sound, then you’re in for a pleasant surprise, and then a treat. Quite frankly we’d question where you had been over the last couple of months if you’re in the latter camp - the floor heater ‘La Belle’ (horrific phrase but honestly the only way to describe a tune which is so soulful and floor focussed) has been doing the rounds for quite some time, mustering some serious support from the Steel City Dance Discs crew on its way, and is out on Axe On Wax on 5th November.

The mix glides from box to box, contestant to contestant, west wing to east wing, with consummate ease. We think that Tom may know more groove than the original Edmonds’ knows about the banker, as this mix starts off early rounds of Deal or No Deal, then goes Noel’s house party, and ends with pulling the red tab from a quarter million pound box. 

If you like what you hear, Tom is playing the Horse and Groom, London this Friday (19th October). If you prefer staying in and listening to Tom Jay tunes, no fear - he has a new release up and coming on Krywald and Farrers' label, and two more 12’s on Esuoh Ltd in 2019.

MIX SESSION #20 | Tom Jay

Khillaudio is a Belgian DJ, producer and labelowner of Gents & Dandy’s Records as well as Crooks & Villains Records. DJ & vinyl collector since ’92. Used to play as a duo with his younger brother under the name Bo & Khilla. In ’98 they were asked to play a live set in the studio of Studio Brussels for the Teknoville show. Later that year they got booked to play the 10 Days Off festival in Ghent. Many guest spots followed in Belgian clubs.

Khilla is now flying solo, both as a producer and dj under his new name Khillaudio. Mostly playing and producing the deeper house flavors. So far he’s had releases and remixes out on: Gents & Dandy’s Records, Plastik People, Fade To Funk, STRCTR, Muzik & Friendz, Closer To Truth, House Cookin’ and more…

Marie aka @dj-alix-marieedithcypris gravite dans la galaxie House depuis la fin des années 80. Derrière le comptoir du Madison - disquaire généraliste - duquel elle importe les sorties House, Techno & Soul-Funk d’outre-Atlantique, à l’écoute sur les ondes de FG et Nova, comme dans les soirées Cosmos Factory, Wake-Up, Respect & Cheers qui enfièvrent les nuits parisienne de l’époque. 
Son mix / sa sélection vinyle only – qu’on est ravi de diffuser sur STTG - s’accueille comme un hommage à cette « Golden Era » de la House Music, genre aux multiples ramifications qu’elle affectionne inconditionnellement depuis près de 30 ans.

Diamond (his actual surname) is a 20 year-old Oxford-based producer and DJ. Alongside a 'jazz series' of mixes released on SoundCloud, Diamond’s live sets range from disco to house to techno. Diamond plays regularly at famous Oxford nights such as Simple, Musical Medicine, Groove, Rubix and more.

 He has had releases on labels such as House Cookin', Ltd W/Lbl, Crooks & Villains, Salin Records and upcoming release on  Flat White Records. The coming years look very promising for this young producer – you can expect much more to follow!

Cosmocities is a French label that was established in 2019 by Matthieu Soulié-Strougar. Based in Dijon, a city with a culture and history for churning out very decent house and electronica. In the nineties club l’An-fer was a pioneer for that culture, with Laurent Garnier  as resident for some years. Cosmocities releases have included artists like Leif, Segue, Jitwam, Jaime Read, Inner Science and Inkswel, with a remix work from broken beat legend Agent K Kaidi Tatham. They even have a Delano Smith release in the pipeline.
Following on with this quality A&R run, Cosmocities presents the ‘It’s the Life EP’. It’s by Billy Lo, a trio of underground producers hailing from the Motor City of Detroit, consisting of Bill Beaver, Darryl Tiggs and Darren Abrams.
As a vocalist, Beaver (aka Billy Love) has collaborated on Sound Signature, Still Music and Moodymann’s Mahogani Music.  Darren Abrams composed the Detroit House classic ‘Loose Piano’ on ‘Detroit Beatdown Volume One’ on Third Ear Recordings. This crew have a deep and credible history.
The ‘It’s the Life EP’ contains a repress of a Detroit forgotten classic originally released on Universal Frequency Modulations Recordings in 2002, currently changing hands on Discogs for a fair few quid. This time it gets repackaged with a remix from NDATL’s front man, the incredible Kai Alce. The EP is completed with a further two original cuts of deep quality house.
