JUNO Review:
Extremely limited, only 300 copies of this 12 minute dub wig-out have been pressed and they've promised no represses and certainly no digital. Cosmic with a heavy lolloping bass plod (think Norway's burgeoning sound in the mid noughties) expect to be completely washed out by shimmering oceanic guitar strums that sound like a really slo-mo, heavily processed sample of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" (but probably aren't). 
As the groove spirals into hypnotic bliss, the 12 minutes pass with a blink of the eye. 
Deliciously deep; Even a 30 minute edit of this wouldn't be long enough.

Just what you want to hear if you see HARVEY at 3am: a 12-minute long, deep, dubby, trippy, hypnotic disco workout that fuses guitar licks with chunky drums. 
It’s one of those tracks you’re already loving before the vocal drops in, meaning when it does a dancefloor orgasm isn’t out of the question.

宇治香園からのご挨拶

2015年、宇治香園の創業百五十年時の記念品に端を発するTealightsoundは、「記念品であり、茶をテーマとした協働作品であり、コンセプト媒体である」という特異な成り立ちにもかかわらず、多くの方々のご協力のもと、おかげさまで現在11作を数えています。

本年は、そのTealightsoundが11年目を迎える年であり、これまで10年間の流れを踏まえ、未来を展望するような媒体を制作したいと考えました。

そこで、文筆家・選曲家の原雅明さんに、音楽的な観点からこのシリーズを捉えていただき、概論をお書きいただきました。

また、Tealightsound最初の作品、「SOMETHING IN THE AIR─the soul of quiet light and shadow layer─」を制作いただきましたCOMPUMAさんには、11作品の楽曲を使用したミックス作品を制作いただきました。

いずれも「読むお茶」「聴くお茶」としてお楽しみいただけましたら幸いです。

なお、表題はCOMPUMAさんのミックス作品のタイトルが素晴らしく、ご本人の許可を得て使用させていただきました。感謝申し上げます。

"Tealightsound"について  

宇治香園は、お茶の提供を通じてすこやかな暮らしのお手伝いをしたいと考えています。

そしてそのお茶の核心は、豊かな彩りと響きに満ちた体感にあります。

一般的にお茶は単なる飲み物として捉えられていますが、それを飲む瞬間、たった一口の刹那でさえつぶさに観察すると、そこには絶えざる変化を伴う体感が見出されます。そしてこの感覚は、オーロラのように変化する色のようであり、お寺の鐘の音がアタックから減衰してゆくゴオォォォォォンという音を聴いたときの感覚のようでもあります。

宇治香園はこの三つの体感の要素、茶と光と音の統合を、Tea + Light + Sound =“Tealightsound"として探求しています。

この試みが、すばらしい音楽、アート、写真、デザインの融合として楽しんでもらうきっかけとなるだけでなく、茶を淹れ味わうことに伴う地理的及び環境的制約を越えて、お茶の核心にふれてもらうきっかけにもなることを願っています。

On "Tealightsound"

Ujikoen, a Japanese tea company founded in 1865 in Kyoto, Japan, has a vision of bringing joy through the quintessence of sencha Japanese tea. The company's experiment “Tealightsound" is produced based on its concept that tea (Japanese tea), light, and sound are—despite their different appearances—similar in terms of the invisible sensations they generate that continuously change.

Although Japanese tea is generally recognized as simply a drink, careful observation of the drinking moment, even a sip or taste, will reveal a sensation involving continuous change. And this sensation strongly resembles to the one evoked when hearing the attack and decay of a church bell sound, ding-dooooong, as well as to ever-changing colors (like the aurora borealis).

The experiment integrates and explores the three elements: tea, light, and sound. The company hopes it will be an opportunity not only to enjoy the fusion of wonderful music, art, photography, and design but also to experience the quintessence of sencha Japanese tea beyond geographical and/or environmental constraints involved in making and tasting Japanese tea.

International Tribe is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian.

This week’s International Tribe mix comes from Lil Mofo.

Coming from Japan’s capital city Tokyo, Lil Mofo is a truly hard-working DJ. Playing up to three or four gigs a week, the Japanese artist has one of the most eclectic tastes in music, ranging from hard slamming techno to smooth melodic roots reggae and slow jams. She says it's her aim as a DJ to help overworked people “feel better in this super-stressed society”.

With her taste ranging from intense electronics, jungle, hardcore and more, for her International Tribe mix, the unique artist explores the slower vibes of her curations, with roots, soul and balearic selects.

International Tribe: Lil Mofo

12 track spiritual, deep jazz LP from Parisian producer Onra and friend - fellow producer, composer and arranger - Buddy Sativa. Combining as the Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo this LP may be a surprise to followers of Onra, while Buddy Sativa will be known to some via his own 2011 jazz leaning LP "Deus Ex Machina" on Favorite Records. There they collaborated on their first jazz track - "Indica". Pleased with the results they carried on, keeping it simple and adhering to straightforward play-more-jazz stylings they have crafted this LP over sessions sandwiched between their assorted commitments over the last two years. Opening the LP "Universe is Love", a shout to Lonnie Liston Smith, is the first track they created under the new no-rules-spontaneity rules. The rest of the LP was created in a similar vein - a drum pattern for tempo or a bassline for tone and layering instrumentation repeatedly on top. Mistakes allowed and encouraged! Spoken word from Brooklyn poet Aja Monet on "The Time is Now", otherwise it's an instrumental trip. So Yatha Bhuta - as it really is, insight, a mix of experience and spontaneity, a LP not created for release, more a liberating, therapeutic break from their other oft constraining aliases.  Jazz because they like it and not for the sake of it, a chance meeting with the late Mati Klarwein's son at an exhibition in Dublin, led to the icing on the cake as the record is beautifully housed by the artists "Conceptual Tree" painting.
