I made Chant de Paris the day before my first solo live show at the club showcase in Paris, hence the name for the track and EP.

Over the last 17 years, Sebastian Mullaert has had a long and distinguished career as one half of hardware experimentalist duo Minilogue, with releases on Cocoon, Wagon Repair and Crosstown Rebels. Now opting to focus more on solo endeavors, he hits the ground running with his sublime Ovum debut. Clocking in at a hefty 16 minutes in length, the title track is a heady excursion which flirts with reverb-drenched ouds and meandering keyboard scales, conveying an air of Arabic mystique. An array of acidic synths move in and out of focus, whilst skittering hi-hats and ride cymbals slowly build upon rafts of kinetic energy, all programmed with a deft, organic touch.In an impressive display of versatility, Mullaert promptly flips the vibe from Berlin basement to Ibiza sunset with Recapturing the Radical Self. It starts off similarly enough, with brooding 303 squelches and sharp claps, but slowly ascends into a state of full-on Balearic bliss. Intervals’ is the new record from Naarm-based musician and producer L Lewis out now on Bathtub Music. Blending jazz harmony, electronic production, and improvisation, the release expands on the sonic palette introduced in their debut. Built from live studio recordings in Naarm (Melbourne) with L Lewis, Lachlan Thompson, Finn Milne, and Jordan Dunster, the tracks were later chopped up in London by L Lewis.

The B side features remixes from local and international artists Space Ghost, Hector Plimmer, Joseph Shabason and Jonah Gabriel plus a bonus digital remix from Alex Albrecht.

Pocket Candy’s debut EP, Dreamin’, invites listeners into a dreamlike sonic world shaped by vivid imagination and atmospheric depth. The five-track release explores hyperphantasia—a condition characterized by intense mental imagery—through lush, synth-forward tech house compositions and two standout remixes by Copenhagen staples Braver and A.Dixen.

Drawing from dub, ‘80s synth pop, ‘90s tech house, and contemporary textures à la Ilian Tape and Wisdom Teeth, Dreamin’ reflects Pocket Candy’s (aka HAKEEM) background as a DJ and his evolving identity as a producer. This introspective yet dancefloor-conscious debut channels both lucid and non-lucid dreams into tactile soundscapes.

Out on 11.09.2025 on Copenhagen's Brave Trax, Dreamin’ will be available on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms.

Federation JI is the new project from Icelandic producer Felix Leifur and Japanese artist Daichi Saito. Known for his house, electro, and techno releases, Felix stepped away from the club circuit to challenge himself creatively, diving into live instruments and a wider range of songwriting. Over two years, he explored a palette shaped by ’70s/’80s jazz-funk and ’90s experimental rock, inspired by his dad’s old Japanese pressings and a love for exploratory sounds.

Moody McIvor is a Darkwave/Synthwave act fronted by Christopher McIvor from the Gold Coast, Australia, with production support from Felipe Bortoloti (Nørus), originally from Brazil and now based in Portugal.

Formed in 2021, the project blends ethereal soundscapes with pulsating rhythms, weaving together electronic textures and organic depth for a sound that is both intimate and expansive.

The debut release on McIvor’s new sublabel Ronnie’s Records, Shadow Frequencies, is a deeply personal body of work developed over four years and dedicated to the memory of close friend Benaiah Fiu. Each track channels love, loss, and memory through haunting melodies, evocative vocals, and emotionally rich atmospheres.

Amsterdam label Spectral Bounce recruits French club stalwart @chris-carrier-841295497 for SPEC06 — Perfect Encounter. Active since 1994, the Parisian artist has released a wellspring of records on Robsoul, Slapfunk and his own Sound Carrier recordings, parallel to his longtime career as a DJ. Characterised by swirling delays and progressive arrangements, Perfect Encounter shows the producer exploring the mesmeric corners of tech house, ideally fitted to the Spectral Bounce aesthetic.

Opener “XLR8” starts with rolling toms that make way for fluid, modulated tones; each bar ebbs and flows to the sweeping synths set in motion by Carrier. Processed with a multitude of delays, rhythmic FX boldly swish above the drums, making for an immersive soundstage. Second track “Light Side” retains the billowing echoes but moves more nimbly, cutting things back to make for a spacious and breezy number. Its croaking synths hop around the stereo field, accompanied by tight percussion and a walking bassline.

The hallucinogenic “Third Moon” sees Carrier step further into trance-inducing territory. The track’s pulsing, syncopated bass note thrums underneath an arpeggio that evolves into a heady prismatic drone. While the chugging beat is ever-present, melodic refrains rise up and evaporate like wisps of vapour, alongside a vocal that fades away as quickly as it appears. The EP’s eponymous “Perfect Encounter” dials up the tension and closes the record with a mysterious touch. Speedy 16th note patterns propel the beat, creating shifty rhythms that rattle and hiss. A rasping, gelatinous synth and squeaky detuned tones resemble extraterrestrial signals — alien morse code for an enraptured dancefloor.

@vertigo-perth is a Boorloo/Perth-based event series-turned-label, making inaugural noise via its debut VA, 'Vertigo 001'. With a variety of talent from both at home & interstate, as well as appearances by international voices Stones Taro and Will Hofbauer, the compilation is an impressive debut which politely demands attention.

Boorloo-born turned Naarm/Melbourne-local @cheahdx's offering to this debut, premiered here, is just as impressive. The artist, increasingly known for his ability to traverse a wide variety of genres & tones, has delivered a spacious, dubby and driving track in the form of 'Su Casa'.

Of the track, CHEAHDX shared:

“'Su Casa' was a track I first started tinkering with back in 2023 - ironically, it's taken a long time to find a proper home for it.

It's an equal parts dubby/wonky exploration that took me a while to get sitting just right; the final result reflects my growing love for dub and dub-adjacent minimal. I’m really happy with how it sits alongside the rest of the compilation and couldn’t think of a better home for it than Vertigo!"

Being part of the city's ever-evolving music scene, I’ve had the privilege of being a regular selector at venues like The Kazimier Garden, The Wind Factory, Egg Café, Kitchen Street, Constellations (RIP), Camp and Furnace, The magnet, The Shipping Forecast, Attic, Café Tabac, and Reeds. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to warm up and close for incredible artists and selectors like Andrew Ashong, Crazy P, Orla, Detroit Swindle, Craig Charles, and Auntie Flo and so many local legends in my home city Liverpool.
