It has been great watching the underground techno scene here in LA flourish and 6AM group and their partners have played a big part of that. I have enjoyed going to their events and have always wanted to have the opportunity to play one of their shows.  So I put together a mix to try to earn a spot in the upcoming Re/Form Spring Festival here in Los Angeles, April 2nd at Catch One. 

Headliners include DJ Deeon, Sara Landry, Brennan Grey  and many others with side rooms hosted by Under|stated & BL_K Noise.

I almost got hit by lightning the other day trying to record some thunder samples to mess around with in the studio. I was so close I got a minor shock in my hip from a nearby electrical outlet. Sick sample though!!

With help from a dear friend and $150 I bought my first set of Turntables and mixer (2 belt driven Gemini 500s and a Gemini mixer) a few years back and have been grinding away trying to get out of the bedroom as much as possible. I have a love and a passion for this music that runs through every vein on my body. It has taken a lot of practice and determination but over the last couple of years I have been able to parlay my love of this world of music into some amazing experiences that have taken me many different places and introduced me to incredible people as well. To date my most memorable experiences have to be when I got to play at Coachella in 2011 on the Global Inheritance Stage. Also my recent trip to the Kanegra Beach Festival in Croatia this summer where I got to play alongside Stacey Pullen Kevin Saunderson, Matador and Paco Osuna. Oh and getting to play on the Janky Barge the night of the burn at Burning Man this year was alright too!! Hopefully I can get some love from you all and add one more awesome festival to my list this year. Fingers Crossed Love you guys!! Thanks!! One way or another I will see you in November!!

PZB's Boogaloo 2016 Mixtape Contest Entry

Saturday Morning I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to bring the sun up with a few hundred people on the coast of Baja California at Genius Loci Festival. Waves were crashing the sun was rising and honestly one of the most synergistic experiences I have ever had with group of people while DJing. It was pretty amazing and the feedback people gave me was so incredible I wanted to recreate the set that I played so you can take yourselves back there whenever you feel like. PZB @ Genius Loci 2016 Sunrise Set

Last year a little over a year ago I made this mix for a friend who is a huge Sébastien Léger Fan. It is a composition of all of the tracks that I had in my possession at the time of recording. It was loads of fun curating this and even more fun mixing it. I put this together in one take using my CDJ's and was really happy with the result. I actually thought I put this up ages ago and turns out I must have forgotten. If you are not familiar with this legend of the dance floor then treat yourself and give it a listen.

Sébastien Léger Tribute

This past Sunday I was out on the prairies of Wyoming at wonderful event called Endless Sky. Afterhours Anonymous and Mahesh Presents are the production groups (from Denver) behind the event out there and they did such a beautiful job of creating a magical experience that I will keep with me forever and I am forever grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to come out.  They call it Endless Sky for a reason. Never in my life have I been able to see so far and seen such spectacular sunsets and sunrises. It all started on Friday night but the highlight of the weekend was Sunday for sure. Sunday was a magical day that started with a 4 hour sunrise set from Catz N Dogz after which some more of the Denver artists and myself took over the day to prepare everyone for the incredible productions of Brian Cid and the face melting progressive grooves of Marc Romboy. The energy that was there with the intimate crowd and setting was unbelievable. So much joy and gratitude among everyone there as we all knew how very special this occasion was. I wish I could have transported you all out there this weekend but this will have to do. Enjoy the set. Hope everyone has recovered from their sugar and alcohol overload of the past couple weeks.  We have a special mix for you this week from  our head honcho PZB aka Josh Brooks. Earlier in October he was invited to perform alongside the rest of the Dirtybird players for some special silent disco afterhours sets at the Bass Lodge. With Worthy and Christian Martin to his left and Bot and Wood Holly to his right Brooks took the Dirtybird crowd down a techno wormhole and we are stoked he recorded it so we can share it with you for our weekly mix series. We are going to catch up with PZB/ Josh Brooks in our weekly mix write up and interview this week and see what he has been up to and what is new in his world. We created this track messing around in the studio while under lockdown a few weeks ago. As it grew arms and legs we realized it was not only relevant to the times we are currently living in but also contained an important message.

So we decided to make it available for a small donation, with all money received being donated to The American Nurses Coronavirus Response Fund - which provides assistance to frontline nurses who are putting their lives on the line to protect our own.

Bio:
Josh Brooks began his love for music in classic setting performing as part of the California Young Musicians Orchestra. Unfortunately under financial circumstances he could not afford the lessons and equipment to continue that path. Frustrated but determined he began to explore new outlets for expressing his talents. With help from a dear friend and $150, Brooks bought his first set of Turntables and mixer (2 belt driven Gemini 500s and a Gemini mixer) from there he would grow from Bedroom DJ to a rising force in LA’s local scene.

In 2009 Josh Brooks took a trip of a lifetime to Ibiza. He had the pleasure of learning from some of the greats in electronic music, such as James Zabiela, UMEK, Nima Gorji, Valentino Kanzyani, Matthew Hoag, Lottie, DJ Unique, and more. This gave Brooks the tools to start performing at events and venues when he returned to Los Angeles, and throughout 2010 he established several successful nights performing with local talents; Modus, Mark Faicol, January Black.

2011 was year that marked a transition for Josh Brooks when he performed his first ever set at Coachella.  CBS’s listed him as one of LA’s Best DJs in 2012. Over the years his style and knowledge of electronic music has grown and his wide range of playing and producing music from House to Techno and everything in-between. Early on he performed at  festivals such as; Brownies & Lemonade Present: Camp Trill 2012, the Venice Music Crawl 2013 and Brokechella 2013. From there he would go on to perform at some LA’s premier clubs on multiple occasions such as Sound, Exchange LA, Avalon, Dim Mak Studios supporting acts such as  and more. Recently he has also added some major festivals to his resume having played Coachella for a second time in 2022, at Electric Forest in 2018, '19 and coming up this summer '22, Dirtybird Campout, Lightning in a Bottle, Genius Loci Festival in Baja, and Kanegra Beach Festival in Croatia. It has been a grind but Josh Brooks’ talents are recognized having shared the stage with acts like Sacha Robotti, Desert Hearts, Rüfüs Du Sol, Stacey Pullen, Kevin Saunderson, Darren, Emerson, Danny Howells, Matador, Justin Martin, Coyu, Capital Cities, Cassian, Justin Jay, Mystery Skulls and many many more. 

Josh Brooks has also run the Los Angeles Music Project for 9 years along with business partner MR PUZL. As co-founder of the Los Angeles Music Project (LAMP), an independent record label, Brooks has helped produce, acquire and mentor a plethora of rising local talent. Additionally he has curated a long running mix series that has had the contribution and support of major artists and listeners across the world for the last 8 years and is still going strong today. He continues to be a major part of the Los Angeles electronic community and is constantly evolving to keep with the current trends while holding onto his roots.
