Milk Talk and Aswad have discussions about sampling and how Japanese City Pop within the 80s may have been inspired by western music around that time. On the show they go through several rounds of trying to guess which music tracks influenced some of the great City Pop tracks from the 80s (which might be kind way of saying that 😅)

He has been kind enough to contribute to our mix series and in the process has surely delivered one of our favourites to date.

In true So Flute fashion, Lay-Far covers thousands of miles throughout the hour long mix, covering groove music created worldwide over several continents.

The journey begins with broken beat from Scotland in the form of Linkwood, followed by a section dedicated to Latin American grooves, including one of his own edit's of Mexican jazz fusion pioneer, Carlos Santana.

The mix continues on a broken beat tip, sliding into dancefloor ready soulful house music. After an afro house classic by Osunlade, Lay-Far moves back into the eclectic with a healthy dose of lively jazz-funk & soul to complete a banging mix. If like us you were left wanting more, you can catch him at our 3rd Birthday at The Roadhouse where he will be making his MCR debut. Joining him will be our second Birthday guest Andrew Ashong & residents Werkha & Bolts. The best MC in the galaxy, Kwasi, hosts.

If you’re familiar with the Boogie/Funk scene, you’ve definitely came across the name “Nick Martinelli” in the credits somewhere; whether as a producer (solo or with his acolyte David Todd), as arranger, writer, mixing board or remix duties. He has contributed some of the most notable song within the genre, songs such as Loose Ends “Hangin’ On A String”, Fat Larry’s Band “Act Like You Know”, or 52nd Street “Tell Me How It Feels”, but his catalog’s range is quite exhaustive, diverse and lots of his catalogue is kind of “slept-on”. We’re talking about a superstar producer, who has hits on both the U.S. and U.K. charts, and at the same time has an abundance of underground boogie/disco classic anthems. 

With that in mind, I wanted to pay homage to him, so I decided to do a tribute mix with some of my records that had the name Nick Martinelli on them. (I could easily do 3 more).
