Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts (Circus Company)

モントリオール出身、ベルリン在住のGuillaume Contu Dumontは、音楽大学でラテンとクラシカルパーカッションとそしてエレクトロアコースティックを専攻し、そしてファンクバンドの一員として、有機的な音楽の英才教育を受けた。この時期に彼はコンテポラリージャズユニッ ト「iks」に加わり2枚のアルバムをリリースし、数ヶ月間セネガルでツアーを行った。
そして近年、その音楽性を、ハイブリッドなエレクトロニック音楽と融合させることに成功し、さらなる発展を遂げることとなる。
彼の音楽は一言でジャンルで区切ることが難しい。ファンク、ハウス、テクノ、ゴスペル、スウィング、そしてアフロビートをブレンドさせた特別なサウンドは他の何かとも似ていなく、独創的である。そして彼のライブスタイルは、ラップトップがエレクトニクスサウンドを、そして自ら電子パーカッションとキーボードを一心不乱に演奏する様を見れば、彼が唯一無二のスタイルを持つアーティストということがわかる。ここ日本でも06年Space Lab Yellow、そして08年、年末に渋谷Legatoで行われ2000人を動員したカウントダウンパーティーのメインゲストとしてその刺激的なライブを披露している。
そして同郷のスーパーヒーローであるAkufenが彼の類い稀なる才能をいち早く発掘し、Akufen主宰レーベルMusique risquéからのファーストアルバムFACE À L'ESTのリリースが口火を切り、09年現在、Mutek_rec、Hartchef Discos、 Floppy Funk、OSLO、Raum Musik、Circus Company、Karatとシーンにおける前衛的なエレクトロニックミュージックを担うレーベルから続々と楽曲がリリースされている。2012年満を持してCircus Companyからアルバム「Twice Around The Sun」を発表。

-このセットはどこでレコーディングされたのでしょうか

今回初めて行った”Womb”のハロウィーンパーティーでのセットをレコーディングしたんだ。


-このミックスのコンセプトを教えてください

プレイする時は常に何でも受け入れられる柔軟なスタンスでいるように心がけているんだ。可能な限り即興でプレイしたいから事前に準備することはほとんどないよ。フロアの動きを見て、それに答えていくのが好きなんだ。


-最近はどのような活動をされているのでしょうか

 ちょうどEPを3枚 Circus Company、meander、osloからリリースしたところで、今はバンドプロジェクトの「Guillaume Coutu Dumonts & the Side Effects」としてのアルバムのリリースに向けて準備しているところかな。あとはレフトフィールドのヒップホップ系のプロジェクトも進行中だよ。
