Duck N' Cover Records is proud to announce the release of one of the most anticipated vinyl E.P.'s 2013 for the global Footwork world and everyone interested in the development of up to date exciting and demanding electronic music. From EQ Why, formerly known as DJ T-Why, the artist gloriously featured on Planet Mu's legendary compilation Bangs & Works Volume 2 with three among the most memorable tracks of the whole selection, including the eternal "Orbits", comes this masterpiece called "Enter The Why Volume 1", subtitled "You Got It".

Written and produced in one of the epicenters of the scene, the Chicago Southside, this music comes straight from the eye of the storm. Daring, provocative, at the same time chaotic and completely static, futuristic but totally rooted and earthed in americas rich black dance music tradition, the rawness of this music is only delivered by the likes of the hardest and coldest producers currently at the top of their game, e.g. RP Boo, Traxman, or Jlin, just to name a few. Being himself a part of D'Dynamic, the group formed by RP Boo, this record bears the seal of highest quality.

This is most definitely battle music in it's purest form, made for those circles where one crew fights the other. Yet there is one track that crosses over, allowing itself to be a total summer hit for 2013, the track called "808 Kick Drum". Being stone cold footwork still, it is so universal that it is playable on so many dancefloors of varying styles, just magical. Containing a seminal super sweet vocal line, alongside a hook that everybody in the room will immediately start to chat along, yet keeping the general rawness factor at a high level similar to the other tunes presented here, no one but EQ Why would be able to lay it down like this. This is a number one hit single!

All of the other tracks have a very special power to them as well, each in a very distinctive and different style, showing the stunning diversity that EQ Why was able to claim for himself over the 12 years since he started producing beats, while always remaining true to his very signature style. "Invasion" ponders through big band territory, "Overdose On Marijuana" is the funkiest tune you heard since long, "Get Down & Bang" is 100% Chicago rawness, "Going Crazy" a magnificent cut up galore, and finally "AIDS" comes with an important message.

Why is the EP called Butterfly Effect? The name choice reflects the environment and vibes present during his creation of the music. "Butterfly Effect" arose naturally as a name choice in a conversation about transformation through art and how small changes can affect larger systems, which is defined in Chaos Theory as the Butterfly Effect. His EP is a poetic interpretation of this scientific theory. 
DJ T-Rell created the EP in the midst of a ground-breaking event whose aim was to diversify and positively change old systems of education. This occurred in September 2021 at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, a four-day conference and workshop series about Chicago Footwork music and dance culture called Werk Related where DJ T-Rell lectured. The Five Colleges hosted nine guest master artists from Chicago and the larger Chicago Footwork community to share their expertise and personal history with Chicago Footwork. Through a series of dance and music workshops, panel discussions, and performances, students and community members learned about the roots and artistic practices of Chicago Footwork, creating bridges and conversations around race, culture, and diversity in higher education arts programs.

It was a vibe, to say the least. DJ T-Rell tapped into that vibe immediately and started creating music the very night he arrived in Massachusetts. While the other guest artists cooked dinner, conversed, and watched old footwork videos in the common space, DJ T-Rell created tracks in the next room. The assembly of artists marked a legendary moment for Chicago Footwork in its involvement with higher-education dance and music departments. DJ T-Rell found himself setting up his equipment on windowsills overlooking the campus or in the corner of active dance classrooms. He found inspiration from every moment, person, and location he encountered- channeling the experience into his art. 
Five of the seven tracks on this EP were created in Amherst at Werk Related, yet the entire EP carries the same transformative energy.
When we consider Chicago music and dance lineage in regards to their interconnectedness, we often discuss the rich history of that potent exchange within Chicago. However, Chicago Footwork is a living art form, constantly adapting to new peoples, locations, and modes of exchange. DJ T-Rell's "Butterfly Effect" exemplifies how adaptive Chicago Footwork music can be. Listeners can hear what DJ T-Rell experienced during his time teaching at the Five Colleges in Amherst.

DJ Roc, known to his mother as Clarence Johnson, was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago better known as the low end.

The crack in ‘Crack Capone’ refers to his style of production. Like an underground chemist, DJ Roc produces variant strains of Chicago Juke music, the ‘crack’ referring to the synapse snapping, potentially ankle cracking manipulation of rhythms and the sampling, hijacking and ultra-rhythmic micro-editing of black American pop’s dominant forms into a style that’s been developed and tested on the streets of Chicago.

One of the most popular and respected DJ’s on the Chicago Juke scene, DJ Roc grew up listening to house music and was inspired to make people dance, especially in the up and coming footwork scene. In 2001 he started to produce Juke via an introduction to the production programme fruityloops by his friend DJ Darkchild. Around 2004 he became more confident with his track making and became very popular in his local area by throwing parties, playing his own tracks and making personal tracks for people to footwork to. From this he co-formed a group of DJs and party promoters called ‘Bosses of the Circle’ and built up his fanbase, garnering interest from the likes of Chicago Juke legend DJ Slugo who helped him make his first mix cds. This first CD grew into 3 volumes of the 'Juke City' mix albums and got support from the various footwork cliques in the city and attention for his production nationally and internationally
