Soltra - Severed (Free Download)

Hi everyone, This track is called predator because I sampled the clicking noise from "The Predator" movies as part of the percussion and it also has a kind of dark energy about it. I'm not really sure what sub-genre this falls into but hope you enjoy it. I tried to capture old school drum & bass sounds in a modern way. I also wanted to make the percussion a little different, which is why there is a predator clicking sound that pans right->left. I wanted it to feel like the predator was going past you. There's also a mini snare build before each bar in the intro, and offset drums at around the 6th beat in every 4 bars to give kind of a breakbeat feel. Anyway, I only spent about 7 hours on it so far so I didn't do a lot on the mixing/mastering yet. I was too busy fiddling with the call/response sounds and percussion and also instead of side-chaining I used volume automation on each kick but I used it in some places with no kick to give rhythm to the bass in places where there was no kick drum but ofc it took a lot of time to place the volume automations manually. This was made using oine shot samples from the official Noisia sample pack released after their last show, and also from Moonboy's chrome production suite. However, the samples were really only base sounds because resampled them and added various FX and automation, then I played them on my keyboard to create the melodies. I'll iterate over it at a later date to clean it up properly, the hi hats are too loud IMO, and there is some general 'muddiness', it needs some EQ/Compression etc. Anyway, hope you enjoy it.
