In this mix I featured every Persian song, and every Persian artist, that Sol Selectas has released thus far, along with a few other songs by Persian friends, and Persian run labels. Sol Selectas has always embraced the beautiful art and music of Iran, and we pride ourselves on being a cultural voice for the people. Now more than ever, that voice needs to be heard loud and strong. 
“Azadi” means “Freedom” in Farsi, and it is the most basic human right which we all must have. 
This mix is dedicated to the women in Iran, who have been fighting and protesting for 2 months now, for exactly this right. 
The current situation in Iran hits very close to home, as my wife was born and raised there. She dealt directly with the challenges of being a woman in Iran. 
I like to think that I speak through my music, and I tell a story with my sets. This DJ mix is not just me speaking, however, it is the voice of an entire nation, and they are literally shouting for their lives right now. None of the mainstream media is reporting on this, so I hope that WE, collectively as a music community, can rise up, and be their voice. Please share this music far and wide, and raise awareness about the revolution that is unfolding in Iran.

We are thrilled to have one of our favorites, the Toronto-based boss lady Jenner, for our special Burning Man Decompression Mix.

This year, our burn started with palpable love and gratitude as two beautiful souls united as one while I played the Mayan Warrior. It felt like a dream. It still does. Moments like this can make you question reality. That’s the magic of burning man."  

About Jenner: 
Jenner (AKA – The Dark Princess) started her musical journey in 2002 when she discovered an after hours club in Berlin, Germany with fellow backpackers. It was at this moment that Jenner began her love affair with underground electronic music. From 2002 to 2007, Jenner regularly attended Toronto’s night clubs and after hours that hosted many of today’s biggest DJ’s in the scene but it wasn’t until 2008 that Jenner bought her first set of CDJs and mixer, and began honing her skills as a DJ.
Since then, Jenner has played many Toronto clubs and events, including Coda, Summerdaze/Bespoke Experience, and Promise Cherry Beach. Her upcoming debut on the Mayan Warrior at Burning Man 2018 is slated to top her list of most memorable events, in addition to Camp Summerdaze and Harvest Music Festival.
Jenner is known for her deep infectious ethereal backdrops, brooding basslines, hypnotic melodies, and perfectly selected vocals to captivate her audience further. Deeper. Darker. There is an excitement on the dance floor that’s palpable when Jenner gets on the decks. Close your eyes and feel the energy through the music.

DHV Podcast 18.42 - Jenner (Burning Man Decompression Mix)

I’m happy to present you what happened to be a true adventure & a musical highlight for me this year, Journey to Tarab 2019.

The story takes place in two chapters, recorded on the Drachen Nest Saturday night in Zsambek, Hungary.

CHAPTER I

It’s 7:45pm and I’m in the DJ booth of the Drachen Nest, my equipment is connected and I’m ready to play. In the center of the dancefloor, a beautiful tandem are performing live with a super cozy setup & I discover the talented duo Ameli Paul. The stage manager gives me a sign that it’s their last song, and I have my intro tracks and samples selected - I’m ready to go and ecstatic to play. 

As my first track is playing, it only takes a few minutes before the wind blows dark and dense clouds hover above our heads. The rain starts pouring; showers. I look down for only a few seconds to mix in the next song but by the next time I look up, everyone has vanished.

A small group of people with the most vibrant energy came to seek shelter in the booth and it truly cheers me up. I’m so excited to be there and I know that such heavy rain won’t last long, staying optimistic that people will come back.

As the rain calms down, people come back, one by one. Umbrellas, raincoats, mud & smiles. The crowd continues to grow and I get to meet my dance floor one person at a time. The rain has stopped. The Drachen is blowing smoke while the sun disappears & I feel the dance floor is finally in symbiosis. I evolve tempo by a few BPM & as my most energetic track of the set drops…

B L A C K O U T. No sound, no light, it is total darkness on the dance floor, a complete power outage.

I always found it challenging to record a studio podcast: my analytical mind is trying to calculate every move, evaluate each transition & criticize the selection. I have time, music & equipment at my disposal, but one key element is missing to really tell a story: humans.

I encountered that problem last weekend. Although I was playing music I enjoy, I felt that my technically structured mix was too stiff and impersonal. 

____

Then, some of my favourite humans turned up at the studio. As Ashley, Apolline, Axel & Robin entered the room, the studio was suddenly filled with a great energy & I felt like pressing the rec button again, just for fun - this is when the first minutes of  S y m b i o s e  were captured.

I feel this studio mix is an authentic representation of the energy levels I like to navigate through during a longer set. It features some of my favourite tracks in a nod to the past but also has a touch of the future; new sounds that are moving me forward & some of my new compositions.

I’m happy to share this mix as I’m taking off for Argentina, what marks my first adventure of the decade. This music session brought me clarity, presence & joy! I hope you'll resonate with it.
