DJ Seek was born April 18th to a Chinese-American father and a Chinese mother.  One of three children, Seek was fully immersed in music by the time he entered grade school.  Perhaps given his own culturally diverse background, Seek has never discriminated when it comes to his musical tastes.  If one were to question the importance of music in his life, it would be readily apparent that his likes are quite eclectic and branch from distinct strains.  He remembers listening to Michael Jackson and break-dancing music in elementary school; then later in middle school, he moved onto Hip Hop and New Wave.  In his own words, while speaking of music’s influence, Seek identifies most definitely with the intensity of lyrics: “From Chuck D to Robert Smith and everything in the middle, I’ve always listened to what artists were singing about and what they were trying to convey.”  Undeniably, music has been a powerful force in the life of DJ Seek and the talented DJ would be the first to tell you that it has shaped every aspect of that life.

Luckily for his fans, Seek has not recognized any limitations of genre or style.  For those happening upon a set by this DJ, they may expect to hear anything and everything (musically), but most definitely that which is characterized as “good” will be in the mix.  Seek feels strongly that music provided a safe place for him while growing up, a place where he felt included, and this is precisely the type of atmosphere upheld by his musical concoctions – a space where people from differing cultures, races, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds join together and indulge in a celebration and experience of music.  Despite genre, for Seek, in order for music to be good, it must possess the quality of being able to touch listeners.  Perhaps, this is why Seek defines the medium as “using sound to convey mood.”  Music, Seek believes, has the ability to create a wealth of emotions and can educate, inspire, and empower its listeners. Because Seek was never exposed to Punk Rock, Hip Hop marked his earliest experience with the nuances of protest.  In fact, “listening to Public Enemy for the first time,” Seek believes he was initially “moved” or “inspired to think” by music.

DJ Seek was himself influenced by his older brother, Terry, as well as a slew of friends, including Leslie (a best friend from high school), Stephen (a best friend from adulthood), Joey (a metalhead), as well as personal colleague and fellow BoothPimp, DJ Johnny J.  In addition, Seek also remembers watching his father play when he was just a boy and says that his earliest “major” musical experience took place when his mother brought him and his brothers to the Jackson Victory Tour.

DJ Seek has been found deejaying at the following Houston establishments: Brixx, Belvedere, Black Cat Lounge, Toc Bar, Jonny’s Sports Bar, Loggia, Drinkery, Deco, Gatsby, NEXT night+club, Touch, Escobar, Bond, and Zula.

Seek is full-time father, as well as a self-proclaimed part-time DJ, bar owner and graphic designer. Seek enjoys watching film and television, fishing, cooking, biking, and swimming.  DJ Seek, wife, two children and SPCA rescue dog call Houston, Texas home.
