2013 marked the 25th Anniversary of Solid Steel when Matt Black and Jon More from Coldcut started broadcasting together on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. It's been a year long celebration and we'd like to thank all the guests who have contributed incredible mixes throughout the year. To see off the year, we asked our listeners to vote for their favourite guest mix from the last 25 years and also their favourite mixes from our resident DJ's.

Your favourite Coldcut mix was the 'Journeys by DJ Special' from 20th May 2002. The original '70 minutes of Madness' was released in 1995 and often considered "the best DJ mix album of all time" and this mix coincided with it's reissue in 2002. It features extra tracks that didn't appear on the original CD including the Coldcut rework of 'People hold on'

Unsurprisingly, the most popular mix for DJ Cheeba, DJ Moneyshot and DJ Food was their epic version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album from 31st August 2012 made entirely from the original sample sources titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ . Each of them took a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more.

Finally it was the Hexstatic mix from 28th January 2011 which was your favourite, with the classic Royksopp remix of KOC, leading into the lovely electronica Two Dots by Lusine. SBTRKT's remix of Modeselektors 'Art&Cash' leads perfectly into material from Robin Hexstatic's project, plus music from  Magnetic Man, Andreya Triana and Dave Angel.

Congratulations to Daniel Westlake from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, who was the winner picked at random in the competition and will receive prizes from Novation, AIAIA, Serato and Solid Steel.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (13th November) This week on Solid Steel we feature the recent Radio 1 Essential Mix from Coldcut and DK, minus the talking and available to download. As part of the Ninja Tune 25th Anniversary, Matt Black said "We wanted to represent as many of the current Ninja Tune roster as possible and also throw a couple of classics from the archives into the mix, in addition to some influential and inspirational tracks" 
We start with the brand new single from Roots Manuva, plus music from Ninja Tune artists Romare, Beat Spacek, Bonobo, Machinedrum, an unreleased track from Illum Sphere and 'Glassbeadgames' by Martyn and Four Tet, with classic tracks from The Bug, Squarepusher remix for DJ Food, DJ Vadim and cLOUDDEAD remixed by Boards of Canada. Solid Steel (6th April) In Hour 1 celebrating the release of the new Dr Octagon album 'Moosebumps: An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation', we welcome back Dan The Automator, who first appeared on Solid Steel in 2000 and is one third of the trio behind Dr Octagon alongside Kool Keith and DJ QBert. The first Dr Octagon album dropped over 20 years ago to great acclaim and two tracks from that album 'Blue Flowers' and 'Earth People' feature in the mix. We also hear 'Black Hole Son' from the brand new album which is out today, plus a whole host of tracks produced by Dan The Automator and Prince doing his incredible cover of 'Creep' by Radiohead.

Been wanting to do this for a while, and it seemed like it would be a daunting undertaking, but seeing as Ableton & Soundcloud have donated some extra free space on here for a few months, I thought I'd better use it, and it all seems to have turned out rather splendid indeed. Three one-hour-or-so mixes and a compendium of some of my favourite mashups, remixes, edits and general insanity, or at least the ones that I could string together in some sort of coherant order. If you've heard me DJ at any point over the Kleptones lifetime, there will be more than a few familiar things here, for sure...

So here you go, nearly three and a half hours - 70 tracks and a few uncredited inserts and nibbles. And there still wasn't room for any Drum'N'Bass, or any mellow stuff... and I tried to limit each producer and artist to one appearance only (Tried and failed as a couple are in there twice...) - guess I'll have to pick all that slack up in future mixes, won't I?

Dj Kicks - Nightmares On Wax

In 2009, I consulted for, and appeared in, Activision's DJ Hero video game.   As part of my involvement, I performed at quite a few industry events and eventually did a couple of club dates.  Some of these sets were more rehearsed than others, and the quality varied.  This one, recorded live on Halloween night at a KCRW benefit, was far and away my favorite of the bunch...both in terms of technical display and song selection.  I'll post some of the other recorded sets later, there's some nice moments along the way.- DJ Shadow
