Solid Steel in association with Serato (10th July) We're delighted to welcome Prefuse 73 to the show, an artist who has been a firm fixture in the track lists on Solid Steel for many years under his different guises. His EP 'Every Colour of Darkness' is released today on Temporary Residence Ltd (following an album and EP earlier this year) and his mix delves into some choice 90's hip hop. He told us;
"This Solid Steel mix is more of an 'ode' in terms of inspiration. Despite being engaged in a wide scope of music, the majority of these songs reflect what I was listening to in high school & beyond. All of these songs have maintained relevance in terms of important moments in my life. Whether it’s a reminder of where I grew up geographically or straight up youthful nostalgia.
Either way, I’ve explored many avenues as an artist but hip hop ‘is' and always be at the forefront of all my work. 
There probably isn’t a better platform than 'Solid Steel' to put together a mix of some very recognizable & not so recognizable “CLASSICS” - so to speak. 
For the record; Not all_ but many of these songs carry a language of violence among other foul things. Even though I’ve cleaned up some offensive moments, I’d highly suggest putting a NSFW sticker over this mix and not playing it for your kids."

With the 20th Anniversary of Ninja Tune records in full swing, DK steps into the vaults at Ninja HQ to dig out just some of the highlights over the years. This set forms part of the 4 deck AV set that he will be performing with DJ Food at the Ninja Tune XX nights around the world, so naturally it focuses on tracks that have rocked clubs over the years from the early days at Stealth to recent Solid Steel nights.

Solid Steel Radio Show 1/10/2010 Part 1 + 2 - Coldcut

Recorded on the anniversary of JFK's assassination and 21 years after their historic '92 New Year mix on Kiss 100 FM, Coldcut meets The Orb inna Uptown Youth House for the Return Trip. Matt Black and Jonathan More alongside studio accomplice Dor Wand got suitably enhanced with Dr LX Paterson and Youth for a multi-player late night jam session lasting over 3 hours. They then entrusted the multitracks of the set to DJ Food who heroically edited, condensed and massaged the sprawling swamp of sound into a tight - but also loose - 2 hour Solid Steel session.

Swimming through the mix are Lee Perry, Killing Joke, Sun Ra, William Burroughs, Teebs, Ry Cooder, Actress, Prince Jammy, Iggy Pop, Monty Python, Hank Williams and Hal 9000. Alongside unreleased dubs from the players themselves, remixes and versions of tunes old and new, the complete track listing for this marathon set may never be fullly disclosed. It's 2 hours, 10 minutes of sonic secrets to melt your mind, probably best listened to in headphones late at night with all suitable facilities for the full effect. Enjoy this trip.

"I really have no specific memory of putting this mix together, or for what purpose. Nonetheless, 'Live In NYC' is what Dat tape says, so I'll go with it. It's a decent representation of me behaving myself and in non-confrontation mode, sticking to a script and playing primarily brand new rap of the era. I remember being kind of proud of the Fantasy Three into De La intro."- DJ Shadow

In 2009, I consulted for, and appeared in, Activision's DJ Hero video game.   As part of my involvement, I performed at quite a few industry events and eventually did a couple of club dates.  Some of these sets were more rehearsed than others, and the quality varied.  This one, recorded live on Halloween night at a KCRW benefit, was far and away my favorite of the bunch...both in terms of technical display and song selection.  I'll post some of the other recorded sets later, there's some nice moments along the way.- DJ Shadow
