For the first time, high-quality "wet versions" of DJ Shadow's classic mash-ups from DJ Hero 1 and 2 are up! This is what the mixes would sound like if you got a 'perfect score'         within game, with all scratches included.  Shadow kills it on these tracks, and it's a treat to finally make them available...enjoy!

Proud to announce the release of my project with the Afiara Quartet entitled "Spin Cycle". This project was produced over the last 8 months in collaboration with 4 Canadian composers (Laura Silberberg, Dinuk Wijeratne, Kevin Lau, Rob Teehan). Here's how it worked:

Phase 1: 4 composers wrote 4 original pieces for the Afiara String Quartet. Pieces were recorded.

Phase 2: Skratch Bastid remixed each of the pieces, using select parts that were replayed by the string quartet, sampled, and scratched. 

Phase 3: The 4 composers remixed the remixes by writing new pieces based on the remix. Skratch Bastid & Afiara Quartet performed these pieces live and recorded them. 

This track is Phase 3 of Laura Silberberg's piece, titled "Dirty Laundry - Heavy Load".

We asked Stereo:Type about the process of making this mix, and here is what he had to say:

"When you're commissioned to make a mix for DJ Shadow, you know you have to pull something special out of the bag. Making sure it was a musical experience was as much a key part of this as making it a hype mix to listen to, considering you are working with material by a guy whose process involves finding sounds which work together as though they were made for one another. When i was approached to do this, I was asked to make the mix using material either sampled by, or remixed for or by Shadow. So Instead of making it a straight up one track into another kind of mix, I tried to approach it like a live performance, deconstructing tracks into their component parts then re-assembling and combining them with my own take on it. I certainly hope people have as much of a blast listening to it as i did making it."

Stereo:Type's DJ Shadow Re-Mixtape

In 2009, I consulted for, and appeared in, Activision's DJ Hero video game.   As part of my involvement, I performed at quite a few industry events and eventually did a couple of club dates.  Some of these sets were more rehearsed than others, and the quality varied.  This one, recorded live on Halloween night at a KCRW benefit, was far and away my favorite of the bunch...both in terms of technical display and song selection.  I'll post some of the other recorded sets later, there's some nice moments along the way.- DJ Shadow
