Mix for Rob Daboom's Twitch Stream - JAN 2022

Re-hashed my set from my guest spot at Versions in Calgary, AB on June 21, 2022 - the first day of summer! One of my absolute favorite gigs of the year, I made the trip out with my rave brother Mark Grimace who played before me and we had the best time! The vibes were magical that evening and I felt 100% in the zone playing an unplanned set purely from the heart, and without compromise. 

Versions is such a special time and it was lovely to play there IRL after doing previous guest sets on their Twitch streams!

011 of the JKG mix series features Shael from Winnipeg. We first were put onto the deep, groovy sounds of Shael at Basscoast Festival; her daytime set was perfect for the moment with smiles on the dance floor all around. A few years later the day has finally arrived that we are hosting Shael on our JKG mix series. As avid house heads ourselves, we certainly vibe with her.

Residing in the heart of the Canadian prairies in Winnipeg MB, Shael self described as a passionate DJ who loves spreading joy through music and bringing people together to dance; heck YES! She's an established figure of the Western Canadian underground dance scene and has brought her distinct style of DJing to dance floors in her hometown and beyond, for over two decades. A house music specialist, expect to hear anything from deep/disco/classic house, to garage and breakbeats, all expertly programmed to reflect the energy of any crowd or setting.

In addition to DJing, Shael actively promotes in Winnipeg as part of the Proper YWG crew whose events showcase local underground talent. This summer you can find Shael performing at Bass Coast Festival (www.basscoast.ca), MEME Festival (www.memetic.ca), and Bring Your Love Festival (www.bringyourlove.ca) as well as several additional events in her hometown to be announced.

Shael describes, “I put together this mix to showcase the vibe that’s presently speaking to me, deep and groovy house with a little bomp, meshed with slow n lush breakbeats. Shael ("Shy-Elle") is a Winnipeg-based artist with a true passion for house music and bringing people together on the dance floor. An established DJ in the Western Canadian underground dance scene for over two decades, Shael has brought her distinct style to an array of electronic music events, radio shows, and festivals in her hometown and beyond.

While specializing in all moods of house music, she aims to showcase a variety of sounds; from deep and classic house grooves, to disco and “bompin” house jams with a dash of breakbeats and garage, she offers musical versatility with an innate ability to program her DJ sets for any type of crowd or setting.

In addition to DJing, Shael collaborates with artists to host dance music events focused on showcasing underground music and artists, and currently promotes with Proper YWG in Winnipeg.

Shael continues to foster connections with artists and music fans throughout the underground community and remains dedicated to spreading joy through music.

Five years ago I made a dj mix showcasing music created by women and femme-identifying artists to celebrate International Women's Day (https://soundcloud.com/djshael/international-womens-day-mix-2020) and today I'm back with part two! A touch late as this year's Women's Day has just passed, but truly, women should be honored and celebrated anytime! It's important to me to highlight women in music, particularly right now as diversity and equality in the underground music world is still lacking.

Mix for e11even on Digitally Imported Radio - JANUARY 2017

I recorded an encore of my DJ set from the final edition of Connect Festival 22! Added in a nice little ambient intro to re-create the energy that was leading into my set. It was raining a bunch right up until about an hour before I played and then the sun slowing starting peaking out which made for a beautiful and joyous Saturday evening. 

This set is really special to me.  It was my last time ever playing at Connect, their final year, and I was in a state of pure bliss the entire time, with a glass of wine in hand, pounding these beautiful songs out on that sweet PK rig with all of the beautiful people out on the muddy, squishy dance floor sharing this lovely adventure with me. It was freaking magical! ❤ 

I did my best to recreate some of the magic from that day in this recording, I hope you enjoy.
