For this first episode of Ecdysis I talk about the myth of Shahmaran and why I chose the name of the show, played some dub-step, dnb, and other high speed goodies, but most important of all: after getting to see her destroy the dancefloor at a KLAUW clubnight I had the pleasure (again) to witness the high energy that Dey.Rey brings to the decks. Giving us Y2K edits through the means of jersey, dnb, breaks, electro, Dey.Rey made it veryyyyyyy difficult for me to sit still!

I was so incredibly happy when I found out that Melis Köke could make it last minute to join me on Operator Radio for the third episode of Ecdysis. I love their sound because we both share an admiration for the euphoric synths and stabs found in NY house music, as much as both loving the more eerie and darker sounds found in electro and techno. Though selecting tracks by listening to each others mixes, this set was 100% improvised, 100% fun, and we hope that translates back to you!!!  <3

So so so happy that regardless of the train issues, Thrills in +41 could come join me for a b2b sesh in the trusty sea container. We both share a huge love for more old school rhythms in the form of jungle, fast-paced electro, with some touches of rave and hardcore. Come to think of it, these b2b's are slowly becoming love letters to the sounds I love from artists like Thrills in +41. This one is for our love of the 90's, stripped down tracks that pack a punch, shit that really touches the heartstrings *sheds a tear*!!

Lindsay is a dear friend of mine, someone whose artist and song recommendations have opened me up to different sounds and genres I hold dear today. I remember her playing 'Where Do You Go' by Zuli at a house party, and since then obsessively rinsing the track at several DJ sets. I couldn't wait for her to start playing live (and sharing her productions in the future!!!). Now things have fallen into place and I got to invite her for a b2b for the Ecdysis show. Our skins have shed and new things began; an eclectic fun beautiful mess <3

First up in a curated selection for the Joyride Mix Series from our sweet-pea resident ketia is the gorgeous @djshahmaran, with a 1hr, 20 mins wax only mix full of transcendental bassy goodness from the Rotterdam resident. 

In their words; 
"I was inspired by the idea that light cannot exist without dark. 'S3xy' music or sets are usually defined by particular genres: tribal house, techno, trance, etc.. Instead, in order to stay true to my sound, I wanted to explore the darker side of a 'sexy' set with my record collection. It's not about the music being 'hard' or more 'harsh', but about a hypnotic state carried through syncopated rhythms in genres like dubstep and electro, which personally are the best for shaking my hips. 

Recorded in one take from my bedroom, this vinyl mix has both uplifting as well as darker moments, for one cannot exist without the other."

A truly cathartic exploration through their record collection; settle in for the highs, lows and moments of stasis

Yall already know!!!!!! But lemme remind you: @YoungWoman is a DJ, producer, radio host for the show XTRADIOL, and one of the founders of the @losanglescollective which happens to curate some of my favorite events in Amsterdam. She's been making WAVESSSSSSSS in and around Amsterdam, and for good reason because there are few who can command a crowd like YoungWoman!!! We went b2b at Weelde and it left us with a taste for more, so im happy she joined me for this edition of 'Ecdysis'.

@ZOBAYDA is a jackelina of all trades!!! Hailing from Egypt, she's been around the Rotterdam and Amsterdam scene for a while, and over the past two years a frequent name to see on line ups. Next to that ZOBAYDA has been working on other artistic projects including video/photo work and hopefully soon production as well! One thing about my sis is that she never misses to catch the beat and WILL destroy the volume fader.
