This was my first Friday night Ecstatic Dance set at The Yoga Barn. In contrast to the light, joyful, tribal sound I usually prepare for Sunday mornings, I understood this assignment to be different: go hard, deep, and sexy.

It was time to bring it, and judging by the amount of sweaty people I hugged at the end, I believe I completed the assignment with flying colors. I made this one shamanic, sexy, and powerful.

The rhythms of grief:

How do we humans process and move through our grief? How do we deal with the fear of the future, the ever-shifting unknown unknowns, the countless wars and atrocities, the very real existential threats to the planet, the depths of despair, the raging fires inside, and the seemingly futile fight to save ourselves from ourselves? ...

WE DANCE - We dance harder than our minds think our body is capable of. To dance is to pray, to fully surrender E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G through the holy water pouring from our pores onto the wooden floors. It's the only way I know. And it's an ancient technology that has been around for as long as humanity.

This dance wave is meant to be a container to allow the frequencies of grief, anger, rage, fear, guilt, sadness and whatever other full-spectrum flavor of life and death wants to come through. Look at it. Be with it. Feel it. Heal it.

I originally crafted and performed it as part of a psychedelic and death series at Warren Wilson college outside of Asheville, North Carolina in Fall 2023.
