TWELVEZ has come out shooting once again with a raucous ‘VIP’ remix EP, the two powerhouse reworks set to drop on Friday 11th August. Calling on label royalty in the form of fan favourites Holloway and Curtis E. Bear, the two tracker brings heavy wub basslines and skippy UKG patterns to add yet more fire to the label’s growing arsenal.

Born from Dr Dubplate’s killer ec2a label, the TWELVEZ sub has already offered a home to the likes of Coco Bryce and Breaka, whose Want U EP on the imprint has been causing untold damage since it dropped last year. Bringing some of the two labels’ formative voices back into the driving seat, TWELVEZ 004 hands over the keys to let Holloway and Curtis E. Bear squeeze even more power out of the engine room.

Whilst the original was brooding and spooky, the rework of Dominus, Daffy & Riko Dan’s ‘Warlord’ is downright scary, with Holloway bringing the hard vocals right to the forefront as tripped out samples give way to a no-punches-pulled whomper. Twisted bass and clattering percussion make this a phat slice of dubstep-tinged sounds and UKG sensibilities, supplying no shortage of chaos. Doubling down on the pulsing bass of Silva Bumpa’s ‘Feel Aight’, Curtis E. Bear also steps up with a similarly high energy approach to vintage garage flavours.

"The idea behind this project was very simple”, explains Yanis Koudjo aka Dr Dubplate. ‘I really wanted to have some of our previous projects in the TWLVZ series flipped by producers that have been an integral part of the label’s journey so far!"


A simple plan well executed, the TWELVEZ VIP EP is a reminder that sometimes the best artists for a job are the ones you know. With the likes of Holloway and Curtis E. Bear on speed dial, Dr Dubplate was never going to be short of a safe pair of hands to handle such dangerous source material.


ec2a has established itself as a major tastemaker in the scene by drawing together a myriad of UK bass music influences whilst pushing fresh talent to centre stage, and this has been reflected in recognition across the country, not least through nomination for DJ Mag’s 2022 Best Label Award. Judging by this heater of a release, Dr Dubplate has no plans to let that momentum dissipate as he sets sights on making TWELVEZ every bit as influential as its parent label.

	In the earlier rounds of the competition, our contestant Johnny Too Bad from South London used two of his lifelines: first to phone an MC for the question: “Who was the very first vocalist to feature on a Chopstick Dub?” The correct answer being Demolition Man. His second lifeline was a 50/50 to our computer: “Who are the members of the Chopstick collective?” Having responded correctly that the crew is made up of Jacky Murda, Aries, Tuffist and King Yoof, he progressed to the final question, leaving one lifeline remaining: ask the audience.
	Welcome back to the final question of tonight’s Who Wants To Hear A Dubplate! We’re back with Johnny from Brixton, who, after being careful, calculating, and lucky, has accumulated £500,000 worth of dubplate listens. Our contestant has decided that it is simply not enough, he wants to hear that last dub, the one million pound dubplate. As nobody really knows what could be played when Chopstick drops the needle, he’s gone for a complete and utter guess for the £1,000,000. Could he possibly be right? This is the question, and it’s the exact same question that viewers have been texting in answers for during the advert break as well.
