Dub Factor (We Are Roots)

I was sent this track a few years ago by Dublin's Dirty Dubsters - being a massive fan of the Fu Schnickens when I was younger I signed it to my NICE UP! label on the spot. Screechy Dan, who is also a legend on the NY reggae/hip hop scene was added later to give another dimension to the track and truly blessed it. 

The original is a bumping hip hop reggae number, but I wanted to give it a more dancehall feel, also being a huge fan of labels such as Penthouse, Mad House and Digital B - taking it back to that gritty rough and ready classic 90s sound, but with a modern edge. 

Got to say a big thanks to Yes King's Rhys Adams who gave it a bit of spit & polish (my version was a bit too rough & ready!) and laid down those killer keys too.

Another well overdue re-issue, this time its Shepdog's massive "Bigger Than Jamrock" which laces a classic dancehall track with one of the biggest hip hop basslines known to man. First released in 2006, it was this tune that put Shepdog on the map as a mash-up maestro! 

On the flip is a brand new blend and one that you really can't believe hasn't been done before! Taking the vocal from that massive hip hop bassline banger and putting it on top of the biggest dancehall bassline of all time, its not rocket science but sure does lift off any dancefloor when played.

I decided to run with a selection of well loved classics from Johnny Osborne, Mr Vegas, Wayne Wonder, Gyptian, Major Lazer, etc but all given different spin plus a forthcoming banger from Turntable Dubbers ft Doctor (coming soon on NICE UP! Records) and even a bit of a tongue in cheek classic at the end (fingers crossed it doesn't rain!)

Thought I'd wheel this one out again as it's coming up to Halloween. Basically I got asked a few years back to do a remix of an up-and-coming artist Nick Harrison. The label wanted me to use music by The Specials as they has just announced they were reforming (albeit without the genius that is Jerry Dammers!) and the artist was a bit into his ska. Anyway, myself and Jstar had a crack and this is what we came up with...

Due to the litigious nature of the tune it never saw the light of day and to be honest I've heard nothing of Nick Harrison since either...could it be...the curse....of.....the NICE UP? Mwuaahahahahahaaaaaaa........
