The project Funkvergnuegen started in 2003 when the notorious crate diggers Marc Hype and Katmando came up with the idea to mix old german music live on their shows. The discoveries went from old MPS jazz to Krautrock rarities to obscure cover funkversions and catched a very own fan crowd. The Funkvergnuegen Promo Mix CDs, Volume 1 + 2, are most sought after in germany and beyond.

With 2011 marking classic hip hop production group Drum and Knowledge’s 10 year anniversary, they decided to create a commemorative mix to mark the occasion.  Their appreciation for samples and the artists of an older era led them to Numero Group, who lent their blessing to an instrumental mix of beats, breaks and edits with samples culled from their extensive back catalog. Numero & Drum and Knowledge are please to present a Parallel Thought 10-year anniversary release  as our gift to you: Eccentric Breaks & Beats, Volume 2, containing an equal or greater amount of breaks, beats, and eccentricity than the first volume.

DJ Shuriken is guiding our observation using paranormal sounds from his vinyl excavations in Europe and California. This psychedelic folk mix blends lost classics and obscure privately pressed songs to focus the mind.   In the Budapest based room that holds thousands of records, the resonance of cosmic dust particles sometimes reaches a critical mass that melts the doors of perception. In such rare moments of enlightenment the darkest lights are radiating brighter than the lightest darks. This attention to tones is key to creating perspective and letting go of bodily sensations.   Digging in the crates is meditation practice. Sifting through the sediment of long forgotten songs and dreams is an exercise of concentration, awareness, and inspiration. It is grounding the present in what has passed, paving the way for the future that is in a steady state of becoming.  The ego is fading and the ultimate truth of our connectedness becomes the most beautiful truth of the lived experience.

Tom Wieland (7 Samurai, free soul inc.) digs a lil deeper: 
black forrest´s SABA records ,Ernst Joachim Berendt,World Jazz, Sound Voyage & beyond.

During the 1960´s German Jazz Pope ,journalist,writer  & producer Ernst Joachim Bernendt stepped across the Jazz border to extend german and european post bop jazz. A festival series in Berlin and nowadays highly in demand vinyl LP releases under the "Jazz meets the world" series name on the mythical black forrest label SABA records marked the arrival of "proto" world music . Japan, Tunesia, Bali, Spain, Brazil, Africa,Switzerland went Jazz ala Kraut.
Pioneer  and " testing ground" for Berendt was german Jazz Trombonist Albert Mangesdorff who went  in  1964 on tour to Asia, and recorded after that his landmark modal album " Now Jazz Ramwong" based on Asian folk songs . 
Searching for new sounds arround  the world (and working together with  musicians from all arround  the globe) almost became a mantra for the more open minded german musicians in the following decades  from Kraut Rock & to New Wave  and this is what my ( & Niko Schabels of Radio Citizen) new project SOUND VOYAGE is all about.

So what happened to Berendt? In the late 80´s  he donated his heavy weight jazz collection to the  Jazz Institute Darmstadt and relocated to the island of Gomera where he went esoteric and became one of the most prolific writers of the scene with his book " Nada Brama - the world is sound". He tragically died on the way to a new book presentation in Feb. 2000 in Hamburg in a traffic tram  accident crossing a red light.
