The Mood For Blues

I have been blessed to host a night of the Chill-Out stage the last couple years at the best little festie that never happened here in So Cal - The Gathering.  As the party is hosted by the impecacble Chino Sound, I get to play pretty bass music the way it was meant to be experienced.  For the 11th year, I ended up playing a 10-hour set, but as luck would have it, my recorder only captured the first ~6 hours. This one! Transglobally good groove of Gritty and gossamer, delicate and driving, spaciously dense and playfully serious Afroblessed, Latin scorched, Heart-Opening, Booty-Shaking levity. 

Here's a mix of deep, pulsing and vibrant global magic. A late night house music journey on the playa that extracts itself from an incredibly tumultuous burn: The heat, the wind, the destruction, the dust...then rain. 

The elements in all their adversity did little to restrain an incredible dancefloor at Sound Garden where I dropped MY most inspired set since attending my first burn 30 years ago. While massive thanks to the dancefloor for its constant inspiration that night, an even bigger thanks goes out to my friend Mark Duncan, the inimitable and indefatigable visionary and host who curated and produced yet another extraordinary week at Sound Garden.

(On a final note, the closing track (Florian Gasperini - Back Home) is dedicated to our friend John Rider who passed away at the burn, at camp, Weds morning. His happy place. He would not have wanted it any other way)

Where Is This Going (Eurodance Mix)

Even though I recorded this mix in my small New Zealand quarantine hotel room, ‘the lagoon’ is a very real place. Last time this year, a small group of friends and I threw a secret bonfire moonrise party at this undisclosed location and I played a set there. This year I can sadly not be there, but I recorded a set with the event in mind. The result is over two and a half hours of eclectic psychedelic sounds. Channel your own inner lagoon the way I did over the past two days putting this set together.

SKEZ’s musical career began at age 20 as lead singer of a progressive alt-rock band in the UK. He started DJing with vinyl in Brighton in 2004, and after emigrating to Canada in 2007, became an integral part of the BC underground house music scene. 
This was followed by three years of residencies in the Caribbean, art car sets at Burning Man, regional shows including Otherworld, ValhallaFest, Footwork Entertainment (supporting DJ Sneak/Hatiras/Flipside/Defunk). Recent residencies with Jellyfish Lounge collective and a progression into production have resulted in legendary parties and multiple releases on SoundCloud and major streaming sites.
Behind the decks SKEZ is a master of his craft, creating a magical feedback loop with his audience, pushing the energy and euphoria to the max. Selecting music from a rich array of producers, he creates a deeply connective soundscape full of bass heavy grooves, tribal rhythms and anthemic melodies. He's sure to take any dance floor on an epic journey and leave them wanting more!
