The Earth Anthem (LIVE @ Akera)

1️⃣ How this mix came together 🎚️✨

I started with a compatibility graph where every node is a track and every edge means these two are compatible (matching key, vibe & BPM - a blend of the Camelot wheel and personal intuition).

Then I had three constraints:
• keep the whole set locked at 110 BPM
• make sure every must-play track appears in order
• allow for optional tracks that can be added in, while still respecting the compatibility graph

2️⃣ Then I wrote a python script to help with coming up with the final track list

Here is what the script does:

• Core path: For each consecutive pair of must-play tracks the script calls nx.shortest_path with weight=None, which runs bidirectional BFS to find the minimum-hop route between the pair. The routes are concatenated to form one chain that contains every core track in order and only harmonic transitions.
• Optional insertion: The script then scans that chain once from left to right. Whenever an optional track connects to both tracks bordering a gap, it inserts the optional there and labels it “optional,” using the first valid slot it finds for each optional track.

The output gives a ready-to-play order with any optional track tagged “(optional).” Whether an optional track is played, or not, the transitions are still harmonic.

This place brings out a bunch of stuck talent of mine. There is something about performing here where I take some more risks and feel so at ease about them. This set has funky groovy jazzy house into a few really sultry track,  into a nostalgic celebration using rare mixes of tracks elder millenials (me) went nuts for, then moves with ease into pulsing world beats and a favorite combo of mine I haven't done since 2022. I love this one.

SPASIBA (Katya Stepanov) is a Belarusian-Jewish-American DJ, artist and entrepreneur based in Brooklyn. 

SPASIBA spins a world of sound. Born in Minsk and raised in the concrete jungles of NYC, SPASIBA’s sound is a syncretic fusion of European melodies and Latin beats. Katya’s sets are a journey. She braids together Afro, Latin & European house, techno, D&B, jungle rhythm, disco, trance, and driving melodic EDM with a splash of mysticism and soul. 

SPASIBA got her start as a champion Latin Ballroom dancer, received her BFA at CMU’s School of Drama, and is committed to co-creating dance floors where notions of self are shed at the door and standing in place becomes physically impossible. She creates resonance through the power of breath, bass, sweat, and sonic alchemy.
