Detroit's very own Clark Sisters are Gospel Music Royalty to say the least. Ever since the early 80's I've always always been fond of: "You Brought The Sunshine" but lately I've been kind of rediscovering this Gem to say the least. In my minds ear I've always heard this song playing to a "House" beat maybe even in a Gospel House Set? I looked and looked and couldn't really find a remix or edit that I needed so I just decided to "House" this classic up myself! :-) I hope you like this Edit and I it brings some new listeners a to this absolutely brilliant tune...  \o/

Yes, it was March 16th, 1993 (I will never Forget it) That Night I witnessed The Best Concert Performance I've Ever Seen! It was at The World Famous Fox Theater in Detroit and featured none other than The Great: Ms. Sade Adu! It was The "Love Deluxe" Tour and featured her always Tight Band: "Sade" which featured their incredibly talented band leader Stuart Mathewman (Sweetback). I have Loved this group since I first heard "Why Can't We Live Together" blasting on a lonely Detroit Street corner one late summer night in the mid 80s. But This Concert took me to another Level of Fan! When Sade sang "Haunt Me," "Pearls" "Cherry Pie" and "Like A Tattoo" Wooooo... I was in Complete Musical Heaven. I Always knew one day I would try to capture Sade's Essence with a "House Mix" but was never really sure about which Tunes to Play? Well, I think I've come up with a pretty good Playlist featuring some Incredible Remixes, B-Sides and Groovy Edits. I Hope this Mix will do "Team Sade" a tad bit of The Musical Justice they so rightfully Deserve! (Enjoy)

Recorded in 2014, This Mix with over 400,000 plays and counting on my YouTube channel features the incredible vocal and song writing talents of Ms. Jill Scott aka "Jilly from Philly!" :-)

The Year was 1999, and my Buddy and fellow Crate Digger, "HE3" was the first person I heard speak Her Name! Yep, HE3 basically told me that "Jill Scott had Next!" Coming from anyone else I might have just shrugged it off. But this was the guy that turned me on to The Roots at least a year before they Hit in '95, and he turned me on to Countless other Hip-Hop, Soul and Jazz tunes that became Instant Classics. So, thats when I began to get Hyped! Especially after hearing (MC) Black Thought of (The Mighty Roots Crew) give Ms. Scott Major "Props" on their album "The Roots Come Alive" on the tune 'You Got Me' (Cowritten by Jill) where we first heard the term: "Ms. Jilly from Philly!" So to say I was excited about her debut album which came out in the summer of 2000 was a Huge Understatement. Jill's debut album was so Good and it seemed it was in everybody's CD player that Summer. And as a DJ I always loved the fact that Jill wasn't afraid of a Good Remix and her early stuff had some Bangin' Remixes for sure. On This Set I tried to find some Mixes that are new to her Catalogue and some of her lesser known Jams. Over the years some really good DJ's have done some funky "JS" tributes so I wanted to at least play a couple of Newbies... So Plug in those Phones and get ready to Ride with The Great: "Jilly from Philly!"

When the super smooth voice of Mr. Lou Rawls teamed up with song writing royalty "Gamble & Huff" in 1976 to create Lou's biggest hit "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" the rest as they say is musical history. Although I'm happy I was even around to jam to this Banger, I really wish I was old enough to hear this blasting through the speakers at Studio 54 or some cool club at the time... :-) Many great DJ's have featured different versions of this disco smash, but I just wanted to add my flavor to the musical pot. It is very rare that a change my radio dial from my usual Public Radio Station "WDNA" here in Miami. But a few weeks ago I did just that and flipped to legendary Miami Disc Jockey, Mr. Freddie Cruz and he was playing this amazing tune on his silky smooth radio show. I heard a few bars and quickly grabbed my phone to Shazam the track. I knew it was Toni Braxton's beautiful voice but I wasn't sure if it was old or new. I was able to capture it and I ran in the house, bought it immediately and began to work. This melody in the hook is just so sweet to my ears, I just wanted to be able to play in on the Dance Floor! (Enjoy)

Mixing traditional Nigerian Fuji music with deep sub bass, "Oluko" gives you the first taste of my upcoming Mystery Trip Vol.II mixtape - dropping July 10th on Bastard Jazz Records. This project is all about going back to my roots: pulling out obscure vinyl from my global collection, then lovingly chopping, remixing and editing them into new tracks with a contemporary edge and classic Captain Planet touch. All 9 edits have been blended, along with other audio samples and field recordings, into a 45min mix, which will be printed to cassette tapes like my earliest mixes from the late 90's. Similar to Mystery Trip Vol.I, which was listed in Sasha Frere-Jones "Best Music Of 2012", Vol.II leads you on a psychedelic journey to destinations around the world, where you are drawn out of your sonic comfort zone via a soundtrack that bridges styles of music from Asia and Africa to South America, The Caribbean and beyond.

If you have listened to any of my Gospel House Mixes over the years I'm sure you've heard me explain how my late Grandmother would take me to church as a kid and just how much I loved the music and the choir in particular. As a DJ I still seem to be drawn to that same Gospel Choir sound be it a sample or live recording I still love all of those incredible voices singing in unison. Mississippi Mass Choir has been one of my fav's for a long time, "When I Rose This Morning" was how I was introduced to them but I've since fallen in love with many of their songs. But "I'm Not Tired Yet" takes me to another place all together. The lead singer Ms. Mosie Burks voice along with her passionate testimony "grabs me" every single time. I started out just to make a short danceable interpretation just for myself but I shared a small clip on IG and a few DJ's I really respect wanted in on this Edit as well. So I hope you guys enjoy...  \o/

Mississippi Mass Choir "I'm Not Tired Yet" (DJ Spivey's Sunday Skool Edit)

It was 1980 in Detroit Michigan where I first fell in Love with this Music. I was 13 years old and the Music of Choice for Me and my Friends was Progressive Dance Music. We didn't know it at the time but We were actually creating a Musical Lifestyle of sorts that would follow many of us the rest of our lives.

Sure there would be periods when no music was bought and no new mixes were produced, but time would go by and before you knew it This Music Thing would just Grab hold to Me again...

In 2012 My Musical Journey started again! This dance music would prompt me to start mixing on the web via my YouTube Channel with over 45K followers, and Soundcloud with over 5K and counting... This music would even take me around the U.S and as far away as Beijing China to DJ (Twice). I'm  really excited now more than ever because I am are currently living in Miami and DJing at my residency at N'Namdi Contemporary Gallery.
