Melodies 2021

Another year has passed since I mixed some of my favorite melodic progressive house tunes.  This one is set to a slow 122 BPM to accommodate the softer, emotive vibe that seems to be popular at the moment.

This mix is dedicated to my students, especially the freshmen, from this past semester.  They were energetic, sharp, and, well, very curious about my musical tastes.

Minded Music remains my favorite dance label, which supplied all nine tracks for this mix.  And Roald Velden remains my favorite melodic progressive house DJ and producer.  Nils Karr and Furkan Senol are tied for second.  A few months ago I discovered the talents of Senol, a Serbian and Turkish producer.  (He studied at a prestigious university in Istanbul.)  The tracks from his new album are absolutely transcendent.

I noticed that some tracks have a harder kickdrum now, so that mixing has become a little more difficult.  I hate when the bass from two tracks mixes poorly, but I tried my best here.

Welcome!  I have been a fan of EDM since 2012.  While I mix dance music whenever time allows, I am a history professor at Tarleton State University with a book on Native American history.  It will be published by the University of Oklahoma Press in spring 2024.  My life, in short, is enriched by historical and musical knowledge.
