Extra Spicy Radio show, Sydney, Australia

This is a classic Tangled Breaks mix I recorded for the Linda B Breakbeat show on AllFM, Manchester as part of our Tangled 20th Birthday celebrations. The 20th birthday was fantastic with the Plump DJs playing a very exclusive 'Greatest Hits' set which was amazing! Sound Control was rammed over 3 floors with smiling faces from past to present. What can I say!? What a fantastic festival Moovin was. So great to be back in a field again playing tunes to smiley, happy people!! My set went down a storm and was made extra special by my friend Rhian dancing wearing a hat made of papier mache which was the head of me!! I have recently discovered this mix on an old hardrive. Starting on a mid-tempo funky tip and building up to some uptempo breakbeat action.  This mix reminds of the kind of set I would play at Tangled and Lowdown when warming for the headline DJ.

Manchesters legendary two room clubnight Tangled returned once again bringing their much loved sounds back to the smiley, sweaty dancefloor. 

This event was also a very special Tangled Breaks 25th Anniversary. The DJ's on the night were resident Steve Thorpe alongside original Tangled Breaks resident Herbie Saccani and the mighty Evil Nine. The night was a huge success and every DJ played an absolute blinder. Steve started the night building from 110bpm mixing familiar cuts with some brand new breaks, then Herbie followed with chunky mix of electro tinged, bass heavy breaks. Tom from Evil Nine then played an awesome 2 hour peak-time set comprising a selection of fresh beats, uncovered gems and Evil Nine classics. Steve finished the night in true style with Tangled Breaks classics uplifting piano infused breaks to end on a high! Smiley faces everywhere!

Tangled Breaks 25th Birthday - 6hr Set - Manchester 02/06/22

This mix has just been dug from the vaults of Tangled. Its a non-stop mix of classic tunes that shaped the sound of the upstairs room of the Phoenix where Manchesters longest running clubnight was held every week from 1997 - 2006. Tangled is a 2 room clubnight with room1 playing house, techno and trance and room2 playing a funky variety of bass infused breaks and beats. This mix was given out on the 12th birthday at the Phoenix back in 2005.

Tangled Breaks  2004

On Saturday 6th September Manchesters longest running clubnight Tangled closed its doors after 21 years of providing the clubbers of Manchester with a hedonistic soundtrack to rave to on a regular basis. This mix is not the live recording but very similar to the set that was played last in the breaks room from 2.30am - 4am. All the tunes are the same, just a few in a different order due to memory loss. Myself and Tangled Breaks resident Nick Dent went back 2 back for the first hour with myself playing the last half hour. The music was amazing and the atmosphere was electric and ecstatic. Classic breaks anthems from over the years at Tangled. Tune after tune after tune... Tune in, Turn it up, Have it large one last Tangled time!! .... until the reunion in a few years :)

Tangled 21st Birthday - Breaks mix - 2014

Here is an unknown DIY mix from 1992. Myself and my friends were breastfed on this mix mix throughout college in the early 90's. . Mixing aint great (who cares?) but the tunes are amazing and bouncing!! Any more insight, tracklist is muchly appreciated :) Digs and Woosh fom DIY were the first DJs we booked for my first ever clubnight with Herbie Saccani in 1996 , called Jam Mode at the Boardwalk, Manchester in 1996. Here is a long lost mix of mine I recently found on an old hard drive. Some classic breakbeat tunes from 2009 plus others from previous years thrown in for good measure!! 2009 was a transitional year with the breakbeat sound. A lot of the producers we knew and loved had changed their style and dubstep ruled the roost so there was not as many great breaks tunes around so you really had to dig deep to keep the breaks alive!!

Tangled Live Stream - July 2020

This is recording I found on my laptop from when breakbeat duo NAPT played Manchesters breaks night, CarryOn. 2 hours of NAPT goodness. It was a great night with Audio Farm playing in room 2. They really were great producers and on top of their game in 2009, winning a multitude of awards at Breakspoll that year....where are they now I wonder?

Tangled Breaks Live Stream vol.2 - Feb 2021

Steve Thorpe started mixing tunes at home when he was 18 and first started DJingin Manchesters bars and clubs in 1996. Playing an eclectic mix of broken beats. In 1997, Steve joined Manchester clubnight - Tangled and turned the upstairs chillout room of a house and trance night into the longest running breakbeat night in the UK...if not the world - Tangled Breaks. Running weekly, then twice monthly and then quarterly for over 15 years and then returning 3 times a year until it ended on Tangleds 21st Birthday in 2014. Steve has warmed up and played alongside all the best breaks DJs and producers in the UK. After Tangled stopped regular events in 2008 he started his own night - Carry On which after 14 months then changed into Lowdown and Dirty... which now after 6 was voted the best breaks clubnight in Manchester and the world as it has won the 'best small event' at the Breakspoll International awards for 3 years running and Lowdown won the coveted City Life 'best clubnight in Manchester' award for 2014. Lowdown has now come to an end but Steve has been DJing at various events and festivals around the UK and helping out with other clubnights, continuing producing mixes and live streams. Steve will also be bringing Tangled back one the UK is back to normal after Covid for a special one-off party!
