Haven't composed classical music in a while, so figured I'd write a concerto.

Composer's Analysis (requires music theory to fully comprehend): 

The piece contains a 4-bar theme with notes slowly descending from dominant to tonic, signifying the crippling nature of grief and inability to do anything else. As the piece progresses, there are variations of the theme, representing increased desperation to escape the ever-encroaching grief. The piece is constantly moving sixteenth note to sixteenth note, with only brief reprieves of dotted quarter notes. This is the continual attempted frenzied escape away from grief, stopping to breathe when exhaustion overwhelms. The sixteenth notes move in a scalar fashion and don't jump large intervals too often, only jumping to create sequence, further exemplifying constantly being pulled back when trying to escape.

In the first half, the piece modulates into two other keys (subdominant minor and dominant minor) but only briefly. Not only are the subdominant and dominant the most important scale degrees in relevance to the tonic, the use of minor signifies even when escaping grief, you still hold to the familiar. The powerful authentic cadence at the end of the first half signifies confrontation; no matter how much you attempt to escape grief, you have to face the demons. 

In the second half, there is a chord progression of III --> iv --> i, which uses a major key associated with happiness, and the softer impact plagal cadence. This chord progression represents consolation and comfort in grief. Despite consolation from others, there is still an even stronger attempt to escape grief, displayed as a successful modulation to the dominant's minor key, a key most strongly related to the tonic, portraying familiarity. Even with this escape to another key, the same themes repeat, albeit varied. As the escape from grief looks successful, a crushing chord progression brings the dominant back to the tonic, reminiscent of being brought back to reality after denial. The chord progression is V --> V7 --> i6 --> v6--> VI6 --> v6 --> iv6 --> V7. The base of this chord progression appears to follow the dominant's minor scale, but actually follows the Phrygian mode (with respect to the tonic key). 

The piece ends explosively with the authentic cadence of confrontation and the Phrygian mode pull to reality. After these chord progressions, the piece remains at the tonic, signifying a growing degree of acceptance while echoing the authentic cadence of confrontation. Even after overcoming grief and accepting it, a part of it still remains that we fight from time to time. The tonic is reiterated at the end with an open-voiced chord, representing conviction in acceptance of grief. As most note movement in this piece is scalar, the drastic jumping of octaves indicates increased success in breaking away from grief.

Apologies for this track being late, but it is a stark reflection of the rampant racism that exists today, especially toward Black Americans. 

Track Analysis: 
• The verses used come from My Country 'Tis of Thee, a patriotic American anthem that was originally in a major key, but was changed to minor to reflect the sad and dire situation we are in. The minor version is sung by Chase Holfelder. Abolitionist lyrics are used instead of normal lyrics to evoke antislavery sentiments that vestigially ring true to this day.
• The initial drop uses plucks, and is deliberately panned left and right to symbolize gunshots coming from all directions
• A second drop is used that mirrors the Whispers Theme from FF7 Remake. In that game, Whispers sure the timeline remains as is, but are quickly defeated by the protagonists Cloud and friends. The usage of the Whispers theme sped up symbolize how institutionalized racism seems to be, but it can be changed, just like how the characters in the game fought fate.
• Clips used from Donald Trump were used to show his blatant intolerance toward Black Americans. However, he is quickly drowned out by chants of "Black Lives Matter", showing how we can triumph over him.
• Trompe L'œeil literally translates into "deceive the eye" in French, and is an art style that portrays 2D objects as 3D. Similarly, I named the track Trump L'œeil to show how deceiving Trump is to the future of America as he tries to "make America great again"
