Live At SlimzUptop's Apartment Party

Nowadays, DJ Tiiny’s name is widely associated with Stormzy, especially having been his right hand man for the majority of the past decade. As Stormzy has risen and continues to do so, DJ Tiiny has been there right beside him and it’s a testament to his talent on the decks and his ability to bring the crowd to life.
Like many DJs, Tiiny began his journey at the age of fourteen and he was influenced by his older cousin and family friends. He showed a keen bright enthusiasm from early and it wasn’t long before he was playing sets at house parties. When his cousin went to university, that led to Tiiny being handed down DJ equipment and eventually he’d take on solo bookings across south London.
He opted out of university while many of his peers and those who introduced him to DJing attended, but he was in and around those environments ensuring that students were having some of the best nights. His jaunts would take him as far as Leeds and Leicester, performing at universities across the UK. At the time, it was a surefire way of getting his name on the circuit.
Not before long, Stormzy was gradually building his own name within the grime circuit and while DJ Tiiny was also figuring out what kind of selector he wanted to be, both their paths soon crossed. DJ Tiiny’s name had been on the MC’s radar for some time and eventually, Stormzy asked if he was able to DJ for him at a show of his in 2012. “I thought he was sick and he thought the same of me. I knew he did music but I didn’t know how DJing for an artist would work, I thought I had to become a household name for something like that but it wasn’t like that.That’s when I knew things were going right for me, it took things to the next level,” he says .Ever since, the pair have been side by side on stage but it’s been Tiiny who has had the best view of Stormzy ever since his ascent.
As credit to his achievements and his bright future, he won Best DJ at the UEA (UK Entertainment Awards) in 2016. In 2018, DJ Tiiny joined renowned radio station Capital Xtra to present the Friday night show. Besides his own star growing due to being Stormzy’s tour DJ who had released his debut album Gang Signs & Prayer a year prior, Tiiny’s expertise as a premier selector is what has led him to this point.There’s still much more on the horizon for DJ Tiiny and he knows it's all within reach. “I’ve built a career from doing the uni circuit and networking with DJs and radio producers all over. This is a great achievement because it’s gotten me in the spaces I’ve always wanted to be in.
Last year, at 23, he joined Stormzy on stage at Glastonbury to help deliver one of the most illustrious performances in the history of the festival but long before then, Tiiny always had plans to become a household name, doing big sets and parties but the aim at the centre of it all is to be the bright spark in people’s nights and making them feel happy.
It all began on a pair of decks at 14 but Tiiny set his sights high and in the next few years, that dream of becoming a household DJ name will be reality. “It gives me this feeling you can make something out of nothing because your role is to make everyone happy. I get joy from that,” he says. “Knowing that I can do that and receive back the love is what made this all possible.”
