Words Get In The Way

Created as a set piece for a performance of The Girly Show in New York City, I found myself taken back to the long-forgotten times of being ridiculed in junior high for my sexuality, which at the time was visible to everyone but me, apparently.

The use of the song Mad World was the idea of Justin Michael Van Pelt; to him, I owe the original idea of paying homage to those who have taken their own lives, especially those who have caught the nation's attention most recently.

The readily identifiable chorus of indelible voices on the cultural landscape of modern America slowly appears, combines and rises to form an undeniable and inspiring message to anyone who is considering their sexuality as a detriment, or as a potential reason to end their life: Trust us, it gets better.



Teenage Suicides/Mad World

This is an 8-bit/chiptune song I wrote for a competition: 60 seconds of video game music—the last battle before the victory party.

All the work is done with four voices; three monophonic instruments and white noise plus filter for the drums.

Listen closely to hear the hero jumping around and defeating the final boss.
