DJ TOPSIDER - house, electro, techno, progressive, trance. 

With the explosion of electronic dance music growing and booming rapidly in a city that is cited as the next “Ibiza” and the bustling rise and popularity of DJs, standing out in Las Vegas as an aspiring young DJ can be tough! But, for 21-year-old Matthew Johnson, also known as DJ TOPSIDER, he is doing everything but blending in.
DJ TOPSIDER juggled everything at one point- snagging gigs and events, being an active brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and attending classes at UNLV…all while channeling his passion for electronic music to make a name for himself as a successful and aspiring DJ. 

San Francisco born, but Las Vegas raised, Matt is no foreigner to music. He grew up playing baseball and golf, but always knew music was his passion and forte. His musical background began as a child, where he was lucky enough to be a part of the marching and jazz band in middle school.  Trombone was his specialty, but he quickly learned that his ear drifted to the piano, learning how to play and read music at a young age.

Growing up, he drew inspiration from loved rock n' roll!  Everything from Nirvana to Soundgarden, Matt had a thing for 90s alternative rock. But, he was in no means exclusive to it. It was not until college where he began to be exposed to electronic dance music and truly discovered his passion for it. After attending the Together as One music festival in Los Angeles, he realized he had a zealous appreciation for electronic music. However, it was attending the 2011 Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas that fueled his love for music and sparked the birth and desire to be a DJ. He was enticed by the positive vibes that electronic music gave off and learned to truly appreciate electronic music after attending the three-day music festival. “I love that dance music is not limited to the typical instruments.  Dance music can be created from any sound.  It is versatile and it always promotes positive vibes.” 

After EDC 2011, everything went uphill.  He began spinning at parties where he quickly became a fan favorite of his peers. His first major gig was with Unity Promotions, spinning for a Valentine’s Day Party at Club Asia inside the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. After that, he began to spin for CollectiveZoo’s “Pool Party Safari,” an eight party event series over the summer of 2012 that began with a pool party at Rumor Boutique Hotel and expanded to venues such as the Royal Resort Hotel and the Hard Rock Hotel. Matt hopes to become a resident DJ at one of the major nightclubs in Las Vegas while producing and creating great dance music along the way. 
“Becoming a DJ/producer has given me an outlet to reflect positive vibes on listeners.  There is nothing better than seeing a huge group of people all genuinely having a great time. Watching other people have a great time during my sets is the most rewarding feeling I could ever ask for.  I am working to earn respect from others by doing a great job in the industry…but my main goal as a DJ/Producer to ensure people always leave with a smile on their face.  Party on and never be scared to listen. Music is what you make of it!”
