A few years ago I sorted though my 1990/91 tunes by grabbing random records and mixing with them (selling all those that didn't make it on to the recordings). Like an idiot I didn't make any tracklists as I was going, so now left with 20+ mixes full of tunes, half of which I cannot remember! If you can help fill any of the gaps it would be much appreciated!

PS please do not judge the mixing, there are clangers throughout as I wasn't paying any attention to the mix - just sifting through the tunes!

2022 CHRISMAS MIX

For those who don’t know, I’ve always been into a variety of genres of electronic music. For this episode, we’re dropping the tempo and changing up the vibe for a journey into all things bass! 

I caught up with Constant whilst we were in Sardinia back in September and asked him to do the honours and grace us with a Mixblog entry! 

After getting into electronic music through drum and bass well over a decade ago, it didn’t take long for his horizons to broaden to other areas of bass-focused music. With a curious ear and a soft spot for anything with groove, soul or a trippy edge (regardless of tempo), this opened up a world of possibilities as a listener and selector. Outside of the DJ booth, he’s experimenting with his productions and is also a writer for online bass music publication, UKF. 

Constant’s 60 minute mix gives us a snapshot of what he’s feeling in the 130-160 BPM range at the moment, taking us through a spectrum of electro, breaks, dubstep and footwork (and much more).

Based in Brooklyn, That Matt is a student of New York City nightlife culture. His sets can range from classic, leftfield, and sleaze disco to house and funk, jazz fusion, and new wave beats. In 2019 he became a founding member of the crew behind Peer Pressure, a roving dance party thrown by friends, for friends, old and new. Matt can be found playing for beloved dance floors across the city such as Good Room, Public Records, and Jupiter Disco alongside NYC fixtures such as Nicky Siano and Justin Strauss. He is also a resident DJ at the monthly queer party, Wet Noise and in 2022 he was included in the Universal Lessons Weekender organized by Love Injection and Musclecars. A dancer at heart, Matt’s effervescent energy in the booth is palpable and his selections broadcast a love and attention to lyrical storytelling.

"For this mix I wanted to put together a punchy set of club-focused sounds largely collected from some of my favorite dance floors in the city. To put it (very) lightly: the last few years have been a lot for all of us. Weaving in and out of a global pandemic has brought some high highs and low lows. To me, this mix feels like a journey through those emotions. From churning low-fi house to celebratory gospel release. From relentless tonal introspection to sultry diva yearnings. I hope this mix offers a sampling of things that make you feel alive on the dance floor."
