What Wondrous Love is This

This is a loop I wrote for a Unity Hub project -- more specifically, the 2D explorer game. I had a hard time programming it in the engine, but composing the music brought all the nostalgia from times when I used to play video games with my brother. I hope I was able to bring some sense of mystery and wonder in this short loop!

The explorer

This was the start screen for the 2D explorer game. I wanted to bring a sense of magic, with a little melancholy. Did I do it right?

The beginning

Strings and percussion -- it's as simple as it can be. Still, I couldn't help but start dancing a little bit while composing this. I showed this loop to my roommate and she said it was her favorite song!

The Challenge

*cue the villain in!* I like some heavy synths and drums for the boss, I owe this to all the years I played Megaman!

My intention in this piece was to illustrate the many stages that a person could go through when receiving an inheritance: grieving the passing of the previous holder of the heirloom, the responsibility to take care of the property; the joy and provision it would bring, or maybe conflicting feelings about it if the object or property should be kept or not. And finally, making peace with one's own destiny.

As I helped my retired teacher clean up her office, I found this old book of poems by Charles Kingsley and she told me to keep it. One day I just decided to open a random poem and begin adding chords to it. I will definitely come back to this one!

I totally recycled a song I had already called "Reckoning" in the fashion of Frankenstein (reusing body parts and stuff lol). I hope you enjoy (and I hope the game jam chooses me!)

The Mountain Walk

I was playing around with Garage Band when I realized this song kind of sounded like a horrible spell, those that you cannot see coming but just get worse with time. Just like in the Silver Chair, when the Lady of the Green Kirtle attempts to entice the heroes into a spell by playing this repetitive, hypnotizing melody on her instrument.

Dreamy chord progressions inspired on Hans Christian Andersen's tale. I have lyrics for this one, but I honestly like it better as an instrumental piece!

Maybe I took my videogame music homework a tad bit too far. I had fun with this, and I decided to name it "Libelula" (the Portuguese word for "dragonfly") for 2 reasons:
1) they're hella cool insects
2)their symbolism is interesting, go google it!
