The Summer of 2013 started off with nothing short of the best weather that BC has seen in years. All the way through June, people were talking about how hot it is and how we hadn't seen a Summer like this in a long time...

This amazing summer we've been having is a huge reason why I put this mix together. The term 'disco' can have you lost in a sea of different genre's and time frames. As of late, I've been calling what i play 'summer house'. Basically anything that reminds me of a solid dancefloor on the beach in a 'paradise' wherever that may be, with girls and sangria, over looking the crystal clear waters and beautiful white sand.

This mix was a complex task for me. Lots of layering, looping and vocal placing. I kept it short and sweet for those of you who I know don't like to listen to long mixes but I selectively packed in as many tracks as I could.
I've put together something that, to me, represents my summer, the music i've been digging and the music i think everyone else will dig as well.

The Elements Of Summer

High Tops & High Heels is a mix made to get people in the mood to party. It's a high energy blend of mid tempo breaks, nu disco & moombahton. It was very challenging and very exhausting, but rewarding in the end.

It's also a mix I made for two very special ladies Betty & Kora. Emmalee Brunt & Roco Newson are amazing and they have this blog, it's very awesome. It has music, videos, festival stuff and other cool stuff in it. They are also full on, hard core supporters of local artists, which is super duper cool.

High Tops & High Heels ~ A Betty & Kora Exclusive

Seventeen years ago, I released my first mix, 'Factory X'. Back then, breakbeats or 'Breaks' were my passion; safe to say I was obsessed. I loved the format, it was different & unique, and I always thought that Breaks were like the "cool kids" of electronic music. These were the Hush & Jungle Room days, where every single weekend was a double-header, and we felt like we were untouchable. Invincible. These were also the days when Breaks were on top in the electronic game. And they were making them fast back in the early 2000s, like 130bpm+.

'Factory X' was the second mix I released and my first solo mix, all vinyl. My first one was a collab with my homie Wes Beanz as W.A.X. (if you know, you know). My drive behind FX was to showcase multiple Breaks genres and a handful of my favourite tunes. 'Factory X' was released in the Summer of 2006. I was 22 years old.

Seventeen years later. The idea to remaster came from borrowing the original FX CD, which I ripped to USB, then dragged everything into Ableton to reassemble & remaster. Because it's the original CD, cue points were unavoidable, so my apologies; there were too many white labels on this one to recreate from scratch. But I've got something special coming in a few weeks' time, so I'm super excited to warm you all up with this one. Enjoy the nostalgia! Much love <3

In 2019, my yoga journey began at Ashtanga in Market Square, where I discovered a loving & welcoming yoga community. Kimber, a teacher then and now the proud owner of Ashtanga, stood out with her electric soul & immediate warmth. Over the years, our friendship has solidified throughout all the highs + lows. Early this Summer, we began a collaboration; her yoga expertise combined with my love for the softer sounds of electronic music. Resonance & Flow (Ekam)

The Comeback is a return to self - coming back to my own, to my roots, to my authentic self: my passion for the music, and finding purpose within the passion. It’s easy to lose ourselves - through work, relationships, and stresses of life - but the more I reconnect with the music, actively and with intention, the closer I come to reconnecting with my true nature and my younger self; the boy who cared only for DJing, making mixes, playing shows & bush raves, and jumping around on stage. A good DJ has the power to move collective energy and my inner child wants to be part of that collective once again.

It’s been six years since I’ve released a proper mix. I’ve been working on this one for the past seven months: 36 tracks, and at least half of them are double drops. I have never been so committed to the music, to the complexity of transitions, and to creating something worth celebrating. Major house party vibes. The Comeback

Four years ago, during the Summer of 2019, I released a mix for Party People Sound Solutions, the Victoria-based promotions company run by local legend Jeff Lingwood (Dj Primitive). Jeff wanted me to create a mini mix that essentially represents my more ‘lounge’ style of djing and also showcases some of the vibes that I bring to Lure; the classy little spot where I spend my Saturday nights in the Delta Hotel. At the time, Feel Trip was uploaded to Mixcloud, and it wasn’t until just a month ago that I rediscovered it, and decided that it needed some dreamy album art and a new home on SC. A lot of classic Nu Jazz from the mid-2000s in this one, and a handful of my fave Lofi house artists. She’s a short one, but honestly, this mix is literally good for anytime, anywhere. Welcome back to another soul-fulfilling hour my friends; this is the second instalment of Resonance + Flow, performed live at the vibrant Gallery Merrick in downtown Victoria. Complemented by the tranquil ambiance of a yoga class led by Kimber, this beautiful gathering served as a heartfelt fundraiser in-memory of an extraordinary soul, Nick Deorter "Soco," who tragically lost his life to the opioid crisis in 2017. It's times like these where bringing friends & attendees together is of the utmost importance. Welcome to the third entry into the Resonance + Flow series. Kimber & I decided that this would be a perfect accompaniment for the Ashtanga Mysore monthly challenge kick-off; a monthly challenge to keep students active in their daily practice. These sets are always exciting & interesting to put together as they require some pretty unique & creative transitions, as well as maintaining a structure that works within Kimber’s practice. The further I dive into these grounding drum patterns & mesmerizing melodies, the more I increasingly recognize that this unexplored realm is where my passion should truly reside. Second Nature | Funky House, UK Tech House

Back when I was collecting vinyl almost every weekend in the early 2000's, it was all breaks. Literally almost every record I own is some form of a breakbeat. A lot of them are party tunes but I also have a handful (literally a handful) of carefully selected chill-out or downtempo breaks that I have been collecting over the years. 

This mix was created in a day using that handful of tunes. It took me 8 tries to nail it and seeing that I hadn't touched anything but Serato vinyl in years, I almost threw my turntables across my room.. haha.. But none the less, it was nailed. 

Those of you that knew me back from 2005 onwards or have just been around since then will probably remember most of these tunes. Hopefully this doesn't get taken down off Soundcloud but while it's up, let me take you down memory lane..

The Vinyl Breakdown

There comes those moments in your life that you kind of 'bookmark' as "the best moments" or whatever, right? The times when you get that natural high afterwards, cause whatever happened was just so fucking amazing, it left a permanent imprint in your brain. One of those times, was at Neon Steve & Friends Vol. 1 at Sugar Nightclub, on February 3rd, opening for my homeboy Neon Steve. 

Neon Steve is just a 10/10 kinda guy and a phenomenal producer. Neon Steve & Friends is a series of nights in the works where Steve plays alongside some slick locals. It's a REALLY good time. This mix is almost exactly a representation of the mix I played at Sugar on Feb. 3rd, 2017. It starts off slow and dark, makes its way through dance and lighter stuff, then speeds up and ends with a bang. It also debuts one of Neon Steve's newest and currently unreleased gems, "Easy Does It". In my opinion, it's his best work yet. 

This mix took me 3 weeks to finalize. Actually sweating at points and ending with tears in my apartment living room (really). This was made on two turntables with Serato SL3, an old school Rane Empath & Novation Dicers. It's packed with heaters and some of the mixes I worked on for days. Please give it a good listen through, and I LOVE feedback ;) Also who doesn't love Stranger Things?

If there's one thing about Summertime mixes, is that you can never have enough of them. I decided to put this one together kinda last minute to give you all, my current version of a Summer jam. It's got a whack load of new tunes and a selection of older remixes I've been holding on to for years now..

Private Smiles

I've been meaning to get to this one for a few months now. THIS IS A MONSTER OF A PARTY SET.. If you were at Distrikt Nightclub in Victoria, the night that I opened for Party Favor in February early this year, then you might recognize some of these house crushers. Most of the producers in this set are from South America - dudes like Vintage Culture, Bruno Be, Kraft, KVSH, Lazy Bear and countless others; they have their own brand of bassline house over there and it..is..the best.

Let me know what you think; I slaved away on this bad boy for days. 37 tracks in just over an hour, handmade on a pair of Tech 12s and a Rane Empath(OG way). Shout out to @SamisTaylor for a good handful of these hidden gems ;)

Full Circle

In the last 11 years, I have never put out a house mix, if you can call this that...
This mix spawned from me being in a very chilled out, sleepy mood recently & mostly inspired from recent dreamy artists..

This is also an exclusive mix for an amazing artist collective called Wolf Sheep. They're located in downtown Victoria, B.C. Inside Wolf Sheep you will find a very chilled out atmosphere with an art gallery, a tattoo parlour, a dj lounge and a clothing store. 

Wolf Sheep has been very supportive of me and this is just one of the ways I'll be saying thanks. This is the just one of the mixes i'll be doing for them. It's short & sweet & very dreamy..

Counting Sheep: A Dreamy Wolf Sheep Exclusive

Xavier's passion and dedication towards his artistry as a DJ is undeniable. For over two decades, his infectious energy and sincere authentic love for music have driven him forward as an artist. Throughout his twenties, Xavier’s focus was purely Breakbeats; nothing could pull his attention. As he moved through the decade, his tastes shifted, and eventually, the magnetism of House music could no longer be ignored. Once cemented in the confidence of his newfound love for House, everything came into focus and his purpose became clear.

From his countless nights early on, sharing the stage at Hush Nightclub - a queer-forward, underground safe-haven, with top-shelf electronic acts such as Alex Metric, Stanton Warriors, or Nora En Pure; to travelling deep into the BC backcountry on a Saturday night to perform - sometimes for only a handful of ravers; to dragging a 50 pound bag of vinyl up a fight of stairs in the suburbs; to playing sold-out shows, opening for artists like Chris Lake, AC Slater, or Justin Martin, it didn't matter to Xavier, because it meant that he could share his love for the music. Wherever he was: outdoors, indoors, a club, a basement, a farmhouse, a garage, a warehouse; people were there to listen, and he was there to play.

Xavier's ultimate goal is to share the music that resonates with him on a deeper level, hoping that it will also ignite a fire in the souls of his listeners. Music has a way of evoking powerful emotions and connecting people on a profound level. Having recently rediscovered that internal fire of focus & passion within himself, Xavier is relentless in the pursuit of a musical experience that not only entertains but leaves a lasting impact on those who are there to listen.
