First issued in 1998 on Superstition Records, Oliver Lieb’s L.S.G. project distilled late-’90s Frankfurt techno/trance into sleek, tightly engineered club tools with arc and atmosphere. The Black Album: The Vinyl Mixes (Remastered) presents the unmixed, original vinyl versions—newly remastered by Lieb—to foreground the detail in his drum programming, weight in the low end and the aerodynamic synth work that made these tracks DJ staples. Across nine pieces you move from the brooding momentum of “The Train Of Thought 1.1” and the nimble pulse of “Go Fishing” to the sinewy churn of “Cellular,” the pressure-valve release of “The Blaxone” and “Rotation,” the taut tension of “88” and “Freakz,” and the endorphin lift of “Hellfire” and “Deep Blue.” L.S.G.’s reputation for trance without cliché has been noted for decades. Lieb’s own note on the remastering underlines the intent: fed “through the finest analogue gear… tweaked to make it sound up to date while the music still is timeless.”

Armed with a TB303 and FG204, 747 continues the backwards excursion in Paleo Part II. Rhythmic tides roll over roiling subaquatic volcanism as new islands are birthed in Tethys; the cooling magma, a breeding ground for exotic crystals, their hexagonal points vying for space as the magma cools. Whimsical offshore breezes caress the fresh landscapes sweeping us into Pangea; whirling through a land of extremes. We're led on an expedition across the supercontinent from the ice-laden poles through to the scorching centre and for the finale, a gentle release as the orogeny declines.

Hot on the heels of their second release comes a third essential offering from SRVD aka Radio Slave & Patrick Mason.

The Rekids boss linked with Patrick Mason—a young creative at the forefront of Berlin’s art, fashion, dance music and LGBT scene—back in 2018 after they struck up a friendship in Panorama Bar. Now their superb studio work continues to bear fruit inspired by New York’s vogue scene, and these latest two tracks are perfect impactful once more.

The hard-hitting techno opener ‘Talking 2 B Mad’ is built on rock solid drums that never let up. Industrial synth fizzes twisted vocal loops and icy hi hats add detail to the most physical groove, which cannot fail to get you moving. On the flip, ‘Twitch' is just as physical and direct, this time with big synths suspending you in midair as the hammering drums seem to grow in size. It’s frenzied techno that is designed to make you sweat.
