Following the release of their critically acclaimed second album, ‘Isles’, Bicep continue to develop their Feel My Bicep imprint with a 12” from a fresh signee, Fasme. The French producer makes his debut on the label with a new 3-track EP ‘Home’.

Fasme is the project of Tom Ferreira, who only dropped his first EP in April last year and quickly caught the attention of Bicep after discovering the track ‘ICI’ on YouTube. Bicep first played these tracks in their FMB Radio show on Apple Music and a Friday Guest Mix for Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 Music.

His melodic sound is created on analog synths, evolving between acid, electro and braindance. Describing himself as “more of a live performer than a studio man”, Fasme will be supporting Bicep in Paris in October to celebrate the EP release.

2021 and another year done… omicron surging through my veins as i write this. Man, every year we ask the team to send us their tracks at Halloween and every year we’re chopping and changing moments before launch. But that’s how it’s gotta be and that’s what’s so vital about this series, now in its 12th year. This never gets more relaxed. We should probably be spending this time of year chilling out and reflecting on what’s coming over the horizon but vinyl lead times already got us making records for July. It’s like the digital and the physical world are pulling further and further apart. 

We hope you love this compilation as much as we do. Thanks to the artists and everyone involved in getting this together. Special shout out to Scott Pilgrim, Leo Martin, Issac Larose and Emmanuel Mauriès-Rinfret  for their images and code. Cameron Morse, Abdullah Al Wali, Albert Carter Philips and Jennifer Metcalf. We don’t shout out the team at the label enough.

Why is Billi DeStabl? 
Billi DeStabl (SLOT - HH) is a pressure valve, a pressure release, sparkles formed from pressure. Billi DeStabl is me, and lived fantasy; an infinite of identities. My origins are as DeStabl too; mixed heritage and nomadic upbringing, and add a non-binary, gender DeStabl experience 2 top it off. LDN, TOR, LA, and now HAM have all been Places to Haunt: I come from migrants, and have been so myself, so we never attached Home 2 Place, but music and sound, dance and movement, fantasy and drama, adventure and trauma have connected it all. I will never settle and never B. Stabl. But Why be Stabl? When I am DeStabl and will B. D.Stabl! 

What and how I select is a DeStabl approach to music also; if the sonics make me feel, then i hope they make u feel 2. I don’t wanna be boxed into a style or genre, every boring binary part of our realities force that upon us, and I hope music sound sonics frequencies and vibrations can move beyond binary in resistance, euphoria, catharsis and community. Simply put; if ur dancin, im doin my thing!

dj excel is a DJ, artist and producer currently based in South London. An active member of SODAA, a non-hierarchical collective looking to develop a model for a decentralised community operated venue. This five track EP expertly twists and screws broken drums, while creating a dark and intense atmosphere which never loses focus with its pumping, mind-altering groove heard throughout. They have tunes already supported by object blue and DJ Pitch.

DENTISTRY - "LP1" [GCR014]

Dentistry is the dual energies of Rory Glacken and Jack Burton, Boorloo originals now living in Naarm. The pair have previously released an EP, “Ribbons,” on their own Deep Water label, and a track on its local showcase comp “Greenhouse Vol. I”  at the end of 2021. This transmission is their debut full length offering, channeled through hometown beacon Good Company Records.

“LP1” was created in unusual conditions between September and December of 2020, when the duo’s shared Northcote studio became a site of remote collaboration. One person would start working on a track and leave the session open for the other, with no overlap of physical space shared. Responding to an invitation from GCR to make a record, the initial impulse was to write dance music. But what dance floor were these incorporeal partners writing for?

The album takes a spectral approach to the dance space, wrapping up air in a strata of textural tech, pulsing dub house and fractal illbience. Drawing on dub production techniques, "LP1" combines the structure of an ambient record with intricate percussive elements. Results are both atmospheric and material, abstract and palpable: a synthesis which expresses sonic relations of surface and depth, with the correlating mirage of light and shadow.

At times tinkering methodically and others in mercurial lurch, there is an immediacy to this album that stems from the way it was produced, using a mixing desk and outboard gear to rich and living effect. When we listen, we commune with the artists in the heat of working out of an otherworldly space, and feel every tweak and and turn. “LP1” is a current which carries the substance of process in communicable form. Intuitive and moving, breathing, dancing.
