We’re Going Deep is an online community created by long time record collector Paul Wise AKA Placid focussed on sharing deeper cuts in acid, electro, house, techno and electronic genres. Recently they have started their own record label to celebrate some of the stalwarts of this sound. Recorded in one take on two Technics 1210s it's primarily focussed on material from the label both released and forthcoming. The mix is expertly sequenced  touching on buoyant deep house productions and emotive electro before finishing in the blissful haze of Rekab’s “Summer Dreams”.

"The mix was recorded at my studio, Metal Box, which is situated on a peninsula where the River Lea meets the Thames. I recorded it late at night, looking over the river and the adjacent steel factory. I used two Technics 1210s, my trusty old Vestax PMC-46 mixer and a RE-20 Space Echo pedal.

I only DJ with vinyl, a habit I don’t think I’ll ever break. Some of these records, like the Shake’s Frictionlized and Florence, are 30 years old, so please excuse the scratches.

I didn’t plan this mix, just decided on an opening record and rolled from there, which is how I play out - searching for blends and that magical feeling when two records meet and form something new, channelling the feeling of unity and escape that occurs when you get lost in the music." - Richard Fearless

Cleveland bridges many different musical divides. He is a DJ, producer and party promoter from Luxembourg but based in Brussels, and in all those disciplines likes to focus more on mood and texture than specific genres. He has a sound that is thought provoking and complex but never too academic, and has explored the deeper, more synth heavy end of the dance spectrum onlabels like Hivern Discs, WHITE and ESP Institute.

Across ninety minutes here he offers up lovably loose grooves that range from musical and lavish to more heads down and propulsive. Tripped out house bleeds into twisted techno and floating ambient laced grooves drift next to minimal classics, all in the sort of story telling fashion that also defines his excellent shows on Red Light Radio. Heady yet engaging, Cleveland's sound is very much deserving of your attention.
