After making their debut on Dekmantel not so long ago, Italian duo Rio Padice and Massimo Di Lena, together known as Mephisto Frequency Oscillator (MFO) now serve up part two of the Future City Traffic EP. Across four new tracks they continue to explore grainy, dirty house that is variously soulful, funky or cosmic in nature.

Opener 'Motor' is the funkiest of all the cuts, with well-defined drums keeping a fine disco groove locked down as whirring machines and wubbing synths dart and dance all around it. Next, 'Oman Jazz' pairs malfunctioning percussion and truly out of control synths that burst, blob and drop into the arrangement at random intervals with a fat and gloopy acid line and a soupy, gloopy deep house track of the highest order results.
'Design The Future' is another meaty and hugely textured track, this time taking its melodic cues from distant planets and intergalactic life forces. Finally, 'Arctic Lodge' kicks things off with a heavyweight kick drum, paranoid synth sounds and jumbled percussion that sounds like Kassem Mosse at his most angry. It's a beautifully lumpy, frayed sounding track that moves in many different directions at once.
This EP oozes live and creative invention from start to finish, and for that reason is amongst some of the freshest stuff you are likely to hear all year.

About Tresor Berlin
At midnight, on March 13th 1991, a basement door opened at Leipziger Strasse 126, Berlin. Through this door, many passed, on their way to defining new terrains in electronic music. There they found a dance floor in the vaults of a closed-down department store, with a unique sound bound to dense fog, building night after night a history that was also a vision of the future.

This history has seen in Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, Underground Resistance's first live appearances in Europe, grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven Väth in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties. These moments represent the highlights of infinite personal clubbing experiences. It is the manifestation of the Berlin spirit, emerging from its considerable strife. This history is not without its complications - from temporary closure by the authorities and several raids in the early years to closure and demolition of the old location in 2005. What followed was years of wandering in exile and, finally, resurrection in the new home in Kraftwerk Berlin.

These stories, conversations and shared experiences within our walls forge a resilience that drives towards a shared ideal, the Tresor sound: community, resistance, and the world to come. This was observed in the newly re-unified German youth, who danced and celebrated together from the club’s inception, and into the present day through ongoing community work in Detroit.

To those that have danced before, and to those that will dance in the future: the light at the end of the long Tresor tunnel is a signal. A flicker amidst the fog. This is our future. This is our place.

Batumi-born, Berlin-based DJ/Producer Nicole has been instrumental in the evolution of Tbilisi’s role as axis for music and politics. Her earliest ventures in sonic creation saw her attend music school as a child and drum in a band, followed by a pivot into electronic music as half of teenage duo Body Thrills. It was 2018 that she truly emerged solo as a talent to watch on the Georgian scene, with a Boiler Room performance at Bassiani to celebrate its reopening following civilian protests against the government’s shutdown of cultural spaces. And with the threat of authoritarian ideology looming once more, her kind of energy is perhaps more important than ever. Nicole’s sound represents the best of what Georgia has to offer, a free and open enthusiasm for life where creativity reigns and anything is possible. Witty minimal with a generous measure of acid squelches and positive funk, these tunes are a mirror to the dancefloors she plays on. Her strength is in knowing her audience, which strings to pull and when, and that’s just as true of her other work, which now counts promotion duties at Tbilisi space Cafe Gallery and an EP on Marco Shuttle’s Eerie Records. This latest episode carries Tbilisi’s flame forward, a six-hour compilation that brings together her unique perspective as native to the city’s struggle, and her disparate musical references. Volume was a one-day event held at Auditorium San Fedele in Milan on October 10, 2025. Conceived in memory of Loris Moretto and on the occasion of his birthday, it brought together artists, friends and sound. A gathering built from frequencies, echoes and silence - a collective act of listening. Volume is the measure of sound, the space it fills and the energy it leaves behind.
The program featured a DJ set by Luca Renton, Simone Merli and Eli Imsirovic (Concentric Records and E/Tape), followed by the screening of the film "Messengers" (2022-ongoing, 23'51'') by Rebecca Salvadori and a unique live performance by Tobias Freund (Tobias.) called "Semblance of Nature"

Carl H (@carl-haop) is a legend of the UK scene and someone I would consider at this point as prolific  - between running his own record label Animals On Psychedelics,  making regular headline DJ appearances at clubs.and festivals globally, and frequent b2bs with other legends like Jane Fitz - Carl really shows how it's done. I've always admired his humble nature and clear passion for music - the way I believe it should be :)

What, exactly, is a selector? Dekmantel has long been determined to find out, even before the Amsterdam-based crew added an official Selectors stage to its annual summer festival in 2014. While the stage has since played host to an elite class of DJs that includes the likes of Floating Points, Mike Servito, Traxx, DJ Harvey, Ben UFO, and Donato Dozzy, to name just a few, Dekmantel came to realize that the Selectors concept needed a larger platform of its own.

As such, 2016 will see the launch of both a limited-capacity capacity festival and compilation series, both bearing the Selectors name. The compilations will come first, with Motor City Drum Ensemble, Young Marco, and Joy Orbison at the helm of the initial three chapters. These are not mix CDs; every Selectors compilation will include a collection of hand-picked, unmixed tracks personally curated by the artist.

Admittedly, drawing a line between "selectors" and mere DJs is an all-but-impossible task—it's essentially a "you know it when you see it" proposition—but it's hard to argue that Motor City Drum Ensemble (a.k.a. Danilo Plessow) doesn't tick all of the required boxes. He's been digging for records since his teenage years, and his DJing has become the stuff of legend, thanks in no small part to his head-turning sets at the last few Dekmantel festivals.

In truth, Plessow's relationship with Dekmantel dates back to the earliest days of the Motor City Drum Ensemble project, making him a natural candidate to head up the inaugural Selectors compilation. As expected, he's thrown himself into the task; selecting a want list from his collection of 15,000 records was no easy task, but getting permission for the final tracklist was even tougher.

One song in particular, Raphael Green's "Don't Mess with the Devil," required him to personally call up a church in St. Louis, Missouri. "The guy, he's a Bishop," he says. "When the Ferguson protests were happening, for example, he was on CNN explaining his thoughts on the whole thing, so he's a known public figure, but nobody really knew that he had this amazing record that was recorded in '79 or '80. His voice is just unbelievable. It's the kind of record that when I heard it the first time, I couldn't believe that there had only been like 100 copies pressed, and that this wasn't actually big."

Motor City Drum Ensemble's record bag is full of these kinds of gems, but he has no qualms about sharing a few of his secret weapons with a wider audience. "I wanted to get some of the stuff that is really, really hard to get, and make it available for younger people," he explains. "I used to be in the same situation. Back when I was 18, I would listen to a Rainer Truby mix and he would only play these $400 Brazilian records. I was like, 'Fuck, how am I ever going to be able to afford these?' I was glad when there was a reissue, and it's a bit the same with the compilation now." 

"Basically," he explains, "the approach for the compilation was, 'If I walked into a record store, what kind of compilation would I buy?' That's what I did."

Motor City Drum Ensemble's Selectors will be released in March 2016 on double vinyl, and CD formats.

Call Super never takes the safe road. The London but now Berlin based DJ and musician has carved out his own place in the landscape of electronic music. He dares to challenge his audiences to the fullest with brittle percussive chaos, off-kilter bass lines and haunted, esoteric melodies. His strength most definitely lies in his variety, both playing and producing music that draws from early Perlon bliss and bone-crushing-missile-techno. After producing one of the standout LPs of 2014 (the critically acclaimed Suzi Ecto), cooking up a Dekmantel Podcast and performing at last year’s festival, Call Super now makes his Dekmantel Records debut.

Nervous Sex Traffic’s title gets you off on the wrong foot. A nine-minute long house odyssey, Call Super wraps your head around brain warming chord progressions and an organic sub-bass that keeps on giving. Subtle, progressive, mind-blowing. Mount Grace on the other hand, draws from a clanking, industrial sound palette. Endlessly deep, spacious and dub-heavy, this electro inspired excursion teases the bass synth in slowly, but starts to go wild as the music builds up.

When we first got our hands on a cassette tape released by Dutch label Yield, we were introduced to the unique sound of @NatalZaks a.k.a. Central. Hailing from Århus, Denmark second largest city, Zaks feels closely connected to the rock, punk and experimental scene blooming in his hometown. The same DIY esthetics can be found throughout his own, idiosyncratic take on electronic music that, apart from being highly distinctive, is best to be described as incredibly versatile. 

His sterling label debut is spread out into a montage over four sides of vinyl - DKMNTL 034 & 035. Zaks deviates between the deepest, vocal tinged house of 'Keep Love On Me', via breezy breakbeats ('This Is Hand'), to the lush ambient-jam 'Longest Way Between Two Point'. On the second EP, the innocuous playfulness of 'Tubelife', the soulful and brooding 'Detour King' and the jazzy undertones of 'Politcal Dance' are colorfully-plumed dance tracks drawing on jazz-soul and deep house knitted together with impressive precession. The breadth of diversity and quality of his execution is a testament to Zaks' skill as a producer. 

Zaks: ‘‘I'd describe my sound as curious and fun club music, because it's based on curiosity and yes, having fun. I'm fascinated with many genres, styles and movements of danceable music. Generally the Central project draws inspiration from my interest for the dancefloor, whereas most of the other endeavors I work on are less crowd friendly. If you’d ask me, a lot of the very best dancefloor music was made a long time ago, so I'd say I'm very influenced by both sound, production and musicality from older records. The general idea is to make tunes that simultaneously look back- and forward in time. I think style and genre is secondary to quality and to trueness. Not trueness to a scene or whatever, but being able to do something that is a true continuation of our person(-ality).’’

Dekmantel is proud to present Danny Wolfers a.k.a. Legowelt's ambient project Occult Orientated Crime. It's for the first time ever that this moniker of the prolific Dutchman will have a physical release. Wolfers: "The OOC sound is an accumulation of twenty years of musical training and research and what effect it has on the brain. Simply put it's electronic ambient music, which is more advanced compared to the music I’m creating with my Smackos alias. OOC is deeper and more melodic, less loose and vague but perhaps more intense. It can bring the listener into a completely different state of mind, you can almost call it ritualistic neuroscience music."

The six tracks are recorded around the same time, using coherent recording techniques. "Let's say I was in a flow, or something like that. But I rather think it's the music itself that gives it a distinctive sound: the way the music was composed, the notes and the sound palette. I haven't used any sharp sounds for example, but everything is very round so your brains will soak it up as something smooth."

Apart from the track 'Just a Clown On Crack', the release lacks kick drums. "Most or nearly all music from PC doesn't have a beat because it is often unnecessary, it distracts from the melody or what should be processed in the mind of the listener. The melodies, sounds and structure itself are enough to bring the listener into a certain mindset: a beat there would almost sound cheap, tacky. 'Just a Clown On Crack' has a trip-/hip-hop feel to it and was craving for a beat. It’s also the last track of the album and, in a rather fluent way, brings the listener back to the misery and tragedy of the normal, everyday world. It’s like returning from the OCC dimension with a soft landing."
