For years now, an old recording of Jeffrey Sfire at Cocktail D'Amore's one and only cosmic hole was one of the highest references for us in terms of downtempo Italo sleaze - an almost 6 hours recording serving more like a PhD aural dissertation specialized in some of the most remarkable dancefloor digs (mainly Europe) had to offer in the 80s at under 115BPM. To be able to share it publicly on the HAND Mix Series as we reach number 50 is a huge honor and we're greatly thankful to Giacomo and Giovanni, the two cuties behind Discodromo that made this possible. We hope you can appreciate it as much as we have over these past years. Here it is HAND #50 featuring the unique sleazy wizardry of Jeffrey Sfire captured in a special moment in time during the moist and lubricated atmospheres of Cocktail, now online - listen carefully! at dawn on Sunday, Alfonso treated us to 4 hours of music, mingling dub techno and minimal, all slowed down and jammed on vinyl.

"When I arrived at the stage, the sun hadn't risen yet. Mine was the first performance on @klapenunsen stage, and the music from the other stage was still playing in the background. It was a cold morning, and I thought there wouldn't be many people at the beginning, but It was a pleasant surprise when, after the main stage last performance ended, a large crowd gathered and filled the stage even before my music started. 

I performed a minimal dubby techno set, playing both current tracks and classics of the genre. Although I didn’t feel entirely comfortable in the beginning of the set, when I saw people dancing with smiles on their faces, it all made sense. It was a very special moment, and later, when the set ended, it was incredible to have people coming up to talk to me, excited about the performance. It was beautiful preparing a set like this and seeing how the crowd responded to the vibe while the sun rose in that wonderful landscape."

“This mix is inspired by a touch more Afro than I usually include in my sets, but it still has a distinct “Meyer” feel, as many of the tracks feature the typical clave pattern that’s present in most of my work. I’ve been incorporating Afro elements into my sets for over 10 years, though it’s never the only style I play. I enjoy blending different genres because it’s more creatively challenging.

A friend once told me, “You play so many different genres in one set, but it always sounds like you.” I think that’s a great compliment. For this set, I leaned more on the classic Meyer sound to maintain the flow. Hope you enjoy it!”

The final day started out rainy, but ended up with sunny skies. This set was deeply connected with such a dramatic ending. Enjoy this euphoric collection of left-field tech house gems.

The reason I love to do live set is that it’s a completely different approach from DJing - while DJ focuses on adapting to the crowd and the room, liveset is a raw expression from the heart, music that was created in the comfort of home and studio - kind of feels like: “this is all I’ve got, love it or leave it.”  My livesets normally focus on 3 different kinds of energy:  Sun energy, Moon energy and Body (Earth) energy.  This 1-hour liveset was originally designed for Sound Metaphors’ 9-year Anniversary at Panorama Bar, drawing from Sun energy - it is driven by joy, romance, warmth and a shared feeling of “things are gonna be okay… we have each other, let’s go on a fun journey together”.  I used Juno60, Korg Minilogue for sequences, Linn Drum & 909 samples, RD-05 for live melodies and pads, plus Ableton Push, midi keyboard, electric violin and vocal.  There are a few alternate (live set only) versions of released materials, and a few unreleased collab materials, as well as of course the “Moods Of Love” Canto series released on Bless You.  The first Cantonese vocal track in the liveset will be the third vinyl release coming end of this month (BLESSYOU029).  It is a cover version of Tina Lau’s “Half A Dream/半個夢” from 1987, but completely redone from scratch with a different take and original vocal.  There will be a few different versions including a club version and Mogwaa’s Latin-style remix.  I hope you enjoy it!
