Set the Mood with Sklasi!

To kick off 2025, I want to share my personal vision of an opening set with you. The project 'Set the Mood' is now 31 weeks in. 31 passionate and talented (emerging) DJs have shared my passion for opening sets and presented their own interpretations. 31 mixes of different styles, approaches, and energy levels—all representing an opening set through their eyes.

What is my vision of an opening set? I started this series because I felt (and still feel) there’s a trend where everything has to be harder, faster, peak-time, and high-energy—essentially, from the moment you step into the club. Personally, I love slower sets, with much more room for experimentation and captivating the audience. I’m glad to see that these days, there’s increasingly more resistance to that trend.

In this set, I wanted to showcase my essence. I begin with about 15 minutes of pure ambient, which is absolutely one of my favorite (sub)genres and deserves far more attention. Following that, breaks and melodic yet deep techno gradually immerse the listener into a vibe. Using hypnotic and dreamy sounds, I aim to keep you engaged. Over the course of this two-hour mix, the energy builds slowly but steadily, ultimately winding down again at the end to conclude the journey and leave space for the next DJ. This two-hour mix takes us from 123 bpm to 131 bpm—perfect for an opening!
