Show host DLGHT just became a father last week. To celebrate it, he decided to share an extract of the tracklist he assembled for the first few hours of his son outside his mother's belly.
Expected quiet, gentle and meditating tunes to caress mother and child ears during their intense meeting. Recent tracks by french duo Yab & Yvanko,  Theodor Cale Shafer meet Lost in Translation OST by Kevin Shields and ambient masterpiece by Radiohead.

Les villes, est une libre interprétation acousmatique de la nouvelle du même titre, écrite par Gérard Klein en  1981 dans l'anthologie "un homme contre la ville".

Ma première approche a été  de "rentrer" dans le corps de la machine, de percevoir et de faire entendre sa cybernétique. Au travers de sons captés machines, jouets robots, ordinateurs, ampoules, téléphones, ondes radio j'ai cherché à organiciser une forme-matière.

Cette entité a un rapport singulier avec l’homme et  l’étranger. Questionnant sans cesse "Qui êtes-vous ?" aux habitants d'une ville qu'elle est sensée protéger et contrôler, sa voix de synthèse singe grossièrement des accents. Bug ? Tentative d'intimidation ? Que raconte ces accents ? (1)

Ou peut-être est-ce cet habitant, M. Ferrier, qui s’adresse à l' étranger ?

Cette relation ambigue entre voix humaine et machine, notamment dans le fonctionnement sécuritaire de la ville, m'a récemment marqué. En Avril 2022, à Shangai, durant un confinement, chiens robots et drones ordonnent aux habitants : "Contrôlez le désir de liberté de votre âme. N'ouvrez pas la fenêtre et ne chantez pas car cela risque d'infecter les autres". Quelques extraits audios, trouvés sur les internet, sont présents dans cette pièce. (2)

Cette nouvelle, contemporaine, protéiforme, Klein la conclue en mettant en relief le pouvoir raciste donné aux technologies sécuritaires, un pouvoir qui va supprimer les hommes de la ville, tous considérés, désormais, comme des étrangers.

"Cities", is an acousmatic interpretation of the short SF story of the same title, written by Gérard Klein in 1981, part of the anthology "a man against the city".

My first approach was to "enter" into the body of the machine, to perceive and make heard its cybernetics. Through captured sounds - machines, robot toys, computers, light bulbs, telephones, radio waves - I sought to organicize a form-matter.

This entity has a unique relationship with man and the stranger. Constantly questioning "Who are you?" to the inhabitants of a city it is supposed to protect and control, her synthetic voice roughly apes accents. Bug? Intimidation attempt? What do these accents say? (1)

Or maybe it is this inhabitant, Mr. Ferrier, who speaks abroad?

This ambiguous relationship between human voice and machine, especially in the safe operation of the city, recently struck me. In April 2022, in Shanghai, during a confinement, robot dogs and drones order the inhabitants: "Control your soul's desire for freedom. Do not open the window and do not sing because it risks infecting others". Some audio extracts, found on the internet, are present in this piece. (2)

Klein concludes his novel by highlighting the racist power given to security technologies, a power that will remove the men of the city, all considered, from now on, as foreigners.
