I originally had this posted on my Afrolizer account but since this was in fact one of my earlier works, I decided to repost it here (giving me more minutes on the other account as well). I literally made this song over night because I couldn't get any sleep. It was a mash up of my very, very first piano song ever made (which you can listen to here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93nciJoZs9M), which in itself was actually me taking a song idea one of my friends had, and combining it with some ideas I got while listening to my dad play a song called Snowflight or Snowflake on classical guitar. I was also listening to the music in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, Little Big Planet 2, and Ochre, which gave me added inspiration for this piece. Now that you know a little bit about the background to this piece, have a listen :)

Sky Mountains

This is the last song I ever made that was solely orchestral or video game related before going into EDM. Well, actually, I think that the making of this song and the credits music for my friend overlapped the beginnings of my EDM producing because I still enjoyed doing that kind of music, I worked on these a little before doing EDM (just never finished until a little later), and I was considering a career as a VGM producer and/or film score composer.

EDM wasn't seriously on my radar until last summer, I think, but I still wish to continue making VGM and cinematic music; I'll probably find ways of combining all these genres in the future, actually. Anyways, a long description to a short song, but it is my last. This account will probably feature my older piano tracks as well and anything else not directly related to EDM or my Afrolizer account so long as I still have minutes. I hope you've enjoyed all these past works and can now appreciate the musical journey that I've been on over the last 2 to 3 years :)

Last Stand

*I am reposting this onto this account because I need minutes on my Afrolizer account, and it fits because this was right as I was transitioning from VGM to EDM*

So I thought I'd upload pretty much all the WIPs I've ever made within the last year or so since moving away from VGM to EDM. Unfortunately, not all of them are on this list because I had deleted some of them, thinking I'd never touch them again (but they would've been perfect for this mix). Fortunately, however, I do have a good memory, so who knows, maybe one of these dead works will come back to life in the future when I get better sound equipment and experience :)

The tracklist is as follows (not all of these songs had names when I came up with them):

A somewhat Rogue influenced Drumstep track, named "Stairstep" (see what I did there)
A Feint influenced Drum and Bass track I worked on with my brother
My first attempt at an Electro House song (when I discovered sidechaining haha)
"Just for Fun" (just came up with that name now actually, I usually don't do songs in a major key)
"Drone Storm" (made entirely with the Rapture plugin)
A David Bergeaud influenced VGM track

"Rainbow Afrolizer" (I really did want to finish this song, maybe in the distant future)
"Sonic Waves" (Also really wanted to finish this one, I was listening to a lot of Cryptex and glitch in general when I made this one)
And last but not least: Incredible Polo - Feel Ma Peine (Afrolizer Remix) 
(I was intending to finish this remix, but I was completely stuck on how to make it shine after the intro, so I never finished it)

RIP WIP Mix

So when I had first worked on this song three Decembers ago, I was quite tired. I made it in just a few days, and because I was having such a hard time sleeping, I thought it'd be ironic if I made the start of the song have a heavier feel, then go into a mood that fit the title more accurately. That was my first idea anyways. When I started considering it for my EP, I thought the darker mood kind of fit the irony we sometimes have as people to think everything is great in life when in reality we are depraved without Christ. Then it goes into a lighter mood that fits the constant daydreaming attitude we sometimes walk through. At the end, the song offers some hope though, because we are loved by a truly amazing God who will pursue us earnestly till the day we die!

Daniel Shimokohbe - Sweet Dreams

This song I made shortly after Sweet Dreams. Originally, I wanted it to have a very cinematic, movie-like sound. Considering it for the EP though, I thought it fit the experience I had gone through when Christ was first pushing into my life. Many times he showed up in a clear and obvious way, but I didn't answer. It wasn't until I thought of the prospect of death without some assurance there was something beyond this life that I got a little worried. But God came at just the right time, and one sermon I'll never forget at Bethel, on the topic of the Abrahamic covenant (November 4, 2010) woke me up to how much God really loved me despite my sins, and how much He was willing to bless me despite my shortcomings. Thus death did approach, but it got a hold of my old self instead...

Daniel Shimokohbe - Death Approaches

This song was inspired by the Stadium Ruins theme in Jak 3, just throwing that out there haha. I had originally wanted this song to be more cinematic as well, but then I got to thinking, (even at the time I was making it) it really said something about some of the struggles I had as an early Christian. I was fervent for God, naturally, but it was hard to say "no!" to the old ways of life, thus beginning a very long process of having to cope with this new nature within me and my old sinful nature. Sometimes I felt on top of the world, other times I was down in the dumps, but I'm thankful to God that He is the only foundation that will withstand the forces of the storms of life. 

Daniel Shimokohbe - Weather Out the Storm

So I had made this song about a year ago after a long, dry period in my music making. It's short, but I feel like hope doesn't need to be explained in a lengthy fashion. Plus, this and the remaining tracks kind of summarize how short my walk with the Lord has been compared to the rest of my life but show how powerful those few years have been. Here's to living life with an everlasting hope!

Daniel Shimokohbe - Hope

I made this song around the same time as Hope, and it was during a time when I just seriously felt the need to reach out to others, either with the Gospel in some way or just extending friendship and camaraderie. This was my first chord based song, as before this, I mostly just had backing left hand notes to my music with a main melody going in the right hand. Hope you guys enjoy!

Daniel Shimokohbe - Reaching Out

I was originally going for somewhat of a piano based video game feel in this track (which is why it repeats). However, every time I listen to this, it does bring back memories of just the last few years of my life, as a Christian, as a SHINE student (my homeschool tutorial), and as a person in general. So much has happened in the span of a few years, and I would not trade it for the world. Sure, every one goes through rough spots in life, but they make those high moments all the more glorious. Thank you listeners, friends, and family for making these past 17 years absolutely awesome!!

Daniel Shimokohbe - Memories

霊界 (reikai), meaning "spirit world." I don't know where the inspiration came from, but guess the idea kinda worked itself out haha.

平和 (heiwa), meaning "peace." I think my little brother and sister have been playing too much Super Mario Galaxy while I'm downstairs working on music because I sense way too much Koji Kondo/Nintendo/Mario vibes in some of my new stuff 0.o

Heiwa

Since I do more than just EDM, I figured I should update this profile and devote it to my VGM and other works. My other account needs space anyway haha.
