Fate Forward

For our final record of the year, we turn to Glasgow's man of the year - Denis Sulta.

Like a good chunk of the Numbers family, he has earnt his stripes working at the coalface of techno aka Rubadub. He has crafted two excellent twelves for our bare-chested cousins at Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and is beginning to carve himself out a reputation as a DJ of some repute, expertly blending in the bangers with Sulta-certified weirdness. Denis is part of a new wave of Glaswegian artists who are doing amazing things and whose music is continuously exciting us.

‘It’s Only Real’ created by Sulta during a burst of inspiration one Sunday, takes us back to a time when techno was intricately melodic but still kicked hard in the club. Made with only the purest of intentions and a dedication to the art of moving heads and feet.

The extraordinary prolongation of sound jerked Polly’s pretty head away from her work at the calibration machine. Today’s jobs had seen her at her thorough and meticulous best but as afternoon melted easily into evening, these latest reverberations meant she’d no longer be able to focus to the level required. Her boss had just dropped The Bomb. 
As her ear drums filtered the noise, the technician’s bright mind was flooded with delight, her eyes no longer felt dry and tight with concentration; she was caught riding the crest of a massive wave of admiration. 
Sitting her specs on the desk and pushing herself off the comfortable heat of her work stool, Miss Filla let the soundwaves pull her to her feet and carry her off to the main source of the captivating music.
In honour of Dixon Avenue Basement Jams spending four years at the forefront of the global electronic music scene a new release was planned to shake the foundation to the very core. Techno wizard Big Miz had been charged with delivering the goods and by the Gods, the Glaswegian had cracked it! He’d created, not just new tunes, but a whole new fucking genre. 
Polly could feel the vibrations pulsating through every part of her curvaceous body as she sashayed along to the seductive beat.
Undoing a hair clip with a swift, deft movement, a powerful shake of her neck had her long black shiny mane falling freely down to her shoulders. Her white lab coat fell to her ankles along with her pencil skirt and she stepped out of them ripping off her blouse as she did so. Off too came her lace bra and the clumsy constraints of her office stilettoes. Finally, she slipped off her white panties, and in a move worthy of a French cancan dancer, kicked them far across the room. 
Polly’s black stocking soles left slight sweat marks on the stone floor of the laboratory as she padded nearly naked towards the master of ceremonies. She could barely contain herself as she gazed at Big Miz’s massive, throbbing pink 12 incher; the source of the magic.
“Oh Big Miz, you’re the shiz, this is the biz, ah’m all in a tiz – but what is this ecstasy you’re thrusting upon me?”
“It’s the all new sound of DEEP SPONK baby but don’t interrupt me when I’m busy.”

A lot has happened since Eats Everything made his Dirtybird debut back in 2011..he tours the world relentlessly, has a BBC Radio 1 residency, runs his own label, and has racked up countless awards and accolades.

Considering his last Dirtybird appearance was on our tenth-anniversary compilation several years back - and because Eats is one of our dearest Players - we're thrilled to welcome him back with his “Clash of the Tight-Uns” EP. 

He brought a friend with him this time, fellow UK producer Lord Leopard, and together they crafted two singles for us, “Song For” and “War Rhythm”. The former perfectly captures the essence of Eats’ personality-fun, playful and full of life, while Lord’s influence is heard on the latter; a darker, blistering techno track.

We Can Do This All Night - The first track I made for Intec and still one of my personal faves.  It came at a time when I was frustrated with what I was doing. I wanted to make sometthing that did not sound like all the other stuff that was about at the time.  The vocal was key and took a lot of TLC to make it work.  I wanted the track to be about the simple hook and that vocal. It still has the killer groove for me. Again, inspired by the original techno fathers and I love playing this record!

On The Line - This is the first more housey track on the album. Focused around a simple layered stab line that develops through the track and a bass that you can hardly make out the notes, but just rumbles along underneath.  Still has that techy approach but for me oozes electronic soul. I'd say its a head nodder and again hopefully keeps the listener interested as it develops. After a lot of American influence from Detroit and Chicago, this one has a more European feel and shows my love for the housier side!

Patrick Topping has announced that he will be launching his own record label, TRICK, a home for Patrick to exhibit his versatility as a producer, as well as a platform to showcase the wealth of the emerging talent which he has been pushing in his DJ sets. Packed with three original tracks from Patrick, the EP-titled ‘Watch What Ya Doing’ comes with the launch of his label TRICK and as a much anticipated follow up to the late 2017 Hot Creations smash ‘Be Sharp Say Nowt’, which continued to dominate throughout 2018. A year which proved another hugely successful one for the UK producer who was called on for the remix duties for Calvin Harris and added Music Radar’s ‘Best House Producer/DJ 2018’’ and his third DJ Award for Tech House Artist to his list of accolade that include his DJ Mag ‘Best of British’ award and reaching number 11 in Resident Advisor’s 2016 top DJs poll. The groove-laden three-track release represents a clear departure from the darker techno
sound of TRICK’s maiden release ‘Watch What Ya Doing’ - further demonstrating Topping’s
versatility as a producer. Kicking off proceedings, the EP’s title track is underpinned by an
infectious vocal sample and the funkiest of beats. While over on the B-side, ‘Let Wa Gan’ is a
darker, moodier number and ‘Galaxy’, featuring the scintillating vocals of Liset Alea, is a
celestial melodic stomper. The collaboration with Liset came about after Topping heard her
vocals on Alex Kid’s ‘Don’t Hide It’. The track quickly became a staple in his sets and he
made the decision to reach out to the Cuban-born singer shortly after.
