"For Juneteenth I wanted to make the mix as black as possible. I know this is technically a day of celebration for African-Americans but any people whose ancestors were a part of the transatlantic slave trade can see how much this day means to many. So I chose to include black music globally. This mix is very me as I love genre-switching, but the theme of highlighting black artists and producers is very present. The power of sound in a strange land when our enslaved ancestors were tragically and violently stolen from their homes was undeniably a survival tactic and very therapeutic. Baexploitation: Hood Rave w/ Half Queen 150722

Managed to break the months-long writer's block I had throughout 2021 (while I was focusing on finishing up the "Pulsers" EP) in the last quarter of that year. Somehow, I managed to whip up more than five tracks I was happy with over the course of the last 10 months. Here's the final result. You probably already know the drill by now. 

Some of these are coming out in some form in the foreseeable future. Most of the tracks in this mix are unreleased for now, though.

The title for this mix is ‘Cipactli’. 

It was believed that only water was present in the beginning. Earth wasn’t created until a large sea demon Cipactli was destroyed - a primeval sea monster, part crocodilian, part fish, and part toad, with indefinite gender. Being the source of the cosmos, Cipactli had an insatiable appetite, and each joint of the creature bore a mouth. They pulled Cipactli’s body in four directions and freed the universe from its body. The creature’s head became the thirteen heavens, its tail the underworld, its midsection the Earth, and so on. The primordial creator and god of fertility and new beginnings.
