Anishinaabe Dewe'igan / The Ojibwe Hand Drum

An innovative compilation of short audio vignettes organized into eight thematic collections that explore the lasting impact of serving in the United States Peace Corps. Each tale is around 45 seconds long and features interviews with Peace Corps Volunteers during their service from 2012 to 2014 and follow-up discussions 10 years later. The multidimensional edits combine the interviews with reinterpreted American traditional music and a variety of world instruments and beats.

PART 1: WHY JOIN (13 edits) recounts how and why people decided to join the Peace Corps 

PART 2: IN COUNTRY (15 edits) details the highs and lows during the 27 months of service 

PART 3: TRAINING (7 edits) includes different views about how effective or ineffective training programs were 

PART 4: SEX (5 edits ADULT CONTENT) reveals what volunteers do to deal with sexual desires 

PART 5: MARRIAGE (13 edits) shares insights about serving with your spouse and marrying a host country national 

PART 6: HARASSMENT (4 edits ADULT CONTENT) focuses on how sexual harassment affects many female volunteers 

PART 7: RELIGION (5 edits) discusses ways volunteers’ spiritual beliefs change during their 27 months of service 

PART 8: AFTER PEACE CORPS (20 edits) features a wide variety of tales about how the Peace Corps has affected their lives in the past 10 years after serving

“My Voice Matters” was a youth peace-building project organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM)at the United Nations Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Bentiu where about 110,000 people live after fleeing the fighting of the civil war that started four years ago (just after they got the country's independence in 2011). The goal of the project was to get people to express their feelings about peace through a variety of different ways including recording songs, drama, storytelling, and more. These 30 songs were performed and recorded in the Bentiu PoC as part of the "My Voice Matters" project.
