Voici le premier opus d'une série de petites sélections de 45 tours consacrées au Bénin, pays qui occupe beaucoup de place dans mes boîtes de disques africains.

Je n'écoute de loin pas que de l'afro et à ce titre le Bénin m'a justement toujours intrigué; on y trouve une multitude de rythmes et toutes sorte d'hybrides de musiques traditionnelles et occidentales avec une forte dose de psychedelisme dont je n'ai jamais su expliquer l'origine !?

En tant que plus grand et plus prolifique Orchestre du Bénin il est clair que le tout Puissant Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou occupe ici une place de choix mais je n'ai pas oublié d'autres glorieuses formations issues de tous les coins du pays. On reconnaitra facilement la différence de style et de rythmes entre les orchestres du sud (Poly-Rythmo, Discafric, El Rego & ses Commandos, Black Dragons...) et ceux de contrées plus "nordiques" (Super Borgou, Anos Band, Picoby Band, Renova band...)

Vu la quantité de superbes compilations dédiées à ces groupes méconnus il devient difficile de proposer des sons inédits mais on en découvre tous les jours alors je m'efforce de proposer des choses pertinentes !

Fabrizio Lapiana, a well-known fixture in the contemporary Italian techno scene, delivers this week's Global Vibe Radio mix.

His musical career started in his hometown Rome where he began collecting vinyl and DJ’ing in the early 90s. After being mainly active on the local scene, in 2008 Fabrizio started producing and founded his own imprint, the well renowned @attic-music. The label quickly expanded from hosting just Fabrizio’s work into also releasing other artists fitting his personal definition of techno. 

To date Fabrizio has over two handfuls of releases and while Attic Music serves as home to some of these, he has also released on other respected labels such as A R T S (@artsltd), Figure Jams (@figure-official) and M_Rec Ltd to mention a few. His productions are often dark and hypnotic, yet at times they have brighter melodious elements, with each of these components smoothly entering as the tracks unfold. 

Regardless, playing records to a live audience is still his favourite element. Fabrizio has honed and perfected his deejaying skills for over two decades, therefore being famous for his immaculate mixing technique. To create the setting he prefers, his sets travel from deeper to harder techno, darker pieces are introduced to more melodic ones and acid or old school gems get updated with new unheard-of material – these are some of the key ingredients in Fabrizio's sets as he creates an intimate journey for the listener.
