A stellar career within the electronic music industry has seen Jamie Stevens rise to the very top of his profession. Making his full Meanwhile EP debut, the 3-track “Circles” continues his illustrious story.

A double ARIA winning artist with iconic live act, Infusion, Jamie Stevens’ solo career is no less impressive. A veteran of the global DJ circuit with performances at Womb (Tokyo), Fabric (London) and across his native Australia and Melbourne hometown, Stevens has continued to see productions feature regularly in the upper echelons of the progressive house chart.

With almost 400 production credits to his name, Dave Seaman’s Selador, John Digweed’s Bedrock and Guy J’s Lost & Found have all played host to the unique Jamie Stevens sound on multiple occasions as he continues to go from strength to strength. A meticulous approach to his production work and unrivalled attention to detail is coupled with a wider ability to see the bigger musical picture and his music infused with warm tonality and rich rhythmic patterns.

Returning to Meanwhile after a remix of Roger Martinez’s “Cosmic Drum” in late 2020, the “Circles” title track is characterised by a pounding club-friendly beat, while shades of Giorgio Moroder shimmer through the percussive groove and syncopated melodic elements. Building in hypnotic patterns, vocal shouts and a liberal sprinkling of reverse reverb effects and white-noise washes, join forces in a glorious harmony to create a typically impressive body-shaking floor-filler.

The aptly titled “Storm Front” quickly emerges with a subtle tension imbued within it. Continuing on the same mesmerising footing as its predecessor, an immaculately crafted groove, redolent in sub-bass and off-beat percussive roll, powers through the 8-minute timeframe. Subtly synthesised and reverb drenched vocal cuts shimmer across the upper-range throughout, making their presence fully felt at the breakdown before the driving elemental force of the central groove drops back into place through the seething third movement.

The final musical image of the sonic triptych has a softer musical vibe brought about by a swathe of complementary harmonic phrases. A beautiful central motif marries elegantly with a smooth vocoded vocal that gently sings the “Stuck on a Feeling” title. Rising and falling with ease Stevens evokes a warm summer evening vibe with his beautiful arrangement. Where the opening pair of tracks hypnotized through powerful rhythmic structures, the final track oozes spellbinding warmth with its glittering array of analogue synth phrasing.

Three “Circles” find Jamie Stevens drawing a vivid sonic picture that elegantly shows the logical relation between rhythm, melody and energy in a precise musical Venn diagram.

Continuing a strong spring season, Tash’s Movement Limited welcomes Yahra to the label for his debut EP. Based in the USA, Yahra is a rising talent in the deeper realm of electronic music. With an affinity for crafting lush cinematic soundscapes, the Phoenix resident has spent the last few years honing his craft as a musician, taking creative inspiration from his love for traveling to picturesque spots around the world. First emerging in 2021 with a contribution to Re:Sound’s popular ‘Selects’ series, Yahra’s path forward would see him add 3rd Avenue, Flug Lab, Tales of Romance and The Purr to his resume, all while receiving support from world class DJs such as Eelke Kleijn, Joris Voorn and Nick Warren, amongst others. With 2024 getting underway with a pair of remix projects, Yahra now adds Movement Limited to his resume with a two-track showcase entitled ‘Inner Side’. 

Beginning with the title selection Yahra finds a perfect balance between dancefloor energy and emotive musicality. Full of uplifting qualities, the Phoenix resident expertly blends punchy kick drums and warm rolling grooves, with soulful vocal phrasing and luminous melodic motifs for a smooth rush of energy leading into the break. Further revealing his creative attitude across the interlude, Yahra expands the vocal narrative amidst waves of colour, texture and melody, before a wave of arps and wispy effects cues a strong drop and key-changing finale. 

Rounding out the release are the mesmerizing sounds of ‘Keeping the Dream Alive'. Looking to bring greater depth to this portfolio, Yahra flexes yet another side of his studio repertoire here, with a deeper hypnotic mood that feels perfectly dialed for morning play. Plush chord stabs and delicate melodic structures steal the air, resonating beautifully against layers of finely tuned percussion and icy pads, before a series of heavenly vocal wails and a serene break foreshadow a finale that is equal parts uplifting and emotive.

At a time when progressive music continues to flourish so too does Dmitry Molosh. As one of the movements brightest stars, the Belarus based artist has continued to dominate the scenes landscape. A string of Beatport chart hits along with live play from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Replug’s own Cid Inc., have made him one of the genre’s trendiest artists. In addition to forging strong ties with Sudbeat Music and Guy Mantzur’s Plattenbank Records, Dmitry has grown into one of Replug’s primary artists, most recently remixing Navar’s ‘You Find’ in spectacular fashion. Now returning to the label amidst much anticipation, Dmitry presents his latest artist showcase entitled ‘Detektor’, alongside a remix from Orsen.

Comprised of three tracks it’s the peak time sensibility of the title cut which gets the EP underway. Rhythmically charged, it’s chunky low end and percussive cadence unite for a gargantuan swing heavy framework. A storyboard of squelchy synths, dulcet overlays and vocal fragments make for an exhilarating first act. As the break commences the narrative shifts with a tonal top line adding further fuel to the rhythmic fire, before timely modulation and a wave of drum fills sparks a brilliant drop.

Progressive renaissance man Dmitry Molosh returns to Transpecta with two new originals and a spectacular DJ SAN remix. &lsquo;Charisma&rsquo; is menacing and muscular. Building a head of steam slowly but surely with clever instrumentation and buckets of soul. &lsquo;Mountain&rsquo; is pure groove from the first bar. More tribal than &lsquo;Charisma&rsquo; it too builds over time adding deep pads, woodblock percussion and emotional tension. On the remix, DJ SAN flips the script and takes &lsquo;Mountain in a much more progressive direction utilising the melodic elements to devastating effect.
