Zankee Gulati’s ‘Who Are You?’ was first released at the beginning of 2021 as part of our V/A compilation, Electrique Boutique - compiled and mixed by Steve Marx, and went on to become one of the standout tracks of the compilation gaining support and plays from across the scenes most respected figures. We now proudly present Who Are You (The Remixes), featuring two amazing interpretations from Jamie Stevens and GMJ & Matter.

Australia’s Zankee Gulati has seen a meteoric rise in the past year thanks to universally praised releases on highly respected labels, and ‘Who Are You?’ demonstrates exactly why with it’s laidback but powerful groove, euphoric melodies and muted, yet wildly infectious vocal hook. 

Fellow Antipodean Jamie Stevens delivers a brooding beast of a remix, taking the original parts and twisting them into a chugging tribal groove with layers of ethnic percussion and suspenseful builds that twist and turn creating a truly unique remix perfect for late night sets. 

Completing this all-Australian hat trick are GMJ & Matter who have created another stunningly individual remix while retaining the laidback coolness of the original. Full of muted horns, shimmering arps and subtle builds it is sure to be heard on many a newly re-opened dancefloors in the coming months.

Now returning to Meanwhile after a trio of remixes for label head-honchos GMJ & Matter on June 2020’s “Gauntlet” and February 2021’s “The Path”, Alex O’Rion now returns to the label with a devastating 4-track original EP of unrivalled quality.

The “Echium” title track is a blistering sub-bass monster that drives along powerfully on a bed of ticking hi-hats and chest-thumping kick. Building in momentum, smooth pads and effortless synth lines flow across the 8-minute piece before revelling in a stripped-back breakdown. Picking up the pace again in the third movement, gorgeous harmonic overtones layer delicately across each other, borne of never-ending delay sweeps.

“Stranded” continues the powerful rhythmic narrative and otherworldly sonic landscape before a percussive loop provides subtle melodic phrasing. Shifting synth sequences bisect the left-right spectrum as waves of white noise fall against a rocky outcrop of percussive hats. Melodic lines continue to evolve in delicate patterns into the second half in a sonic palette of sheer bliss.

A sumptuous bassline groove propels “The Chase” through its hypnotic paces, accompanied by a chugging rhythmic backdrop. Simultaneously, gentle synth motifs pulsate in side-chained synchronicity as a rich symphony of sound swells into the second half against a plucked earworm phrase. The result is a dynamic and devastating club-friendly track that is sure to inspire a multitude of hands-in-the-air moments.

“The Serpent” ends the quadrilogy with its rippling sound effects that cascade in spiral patterns against a melodious foreground. Delicate percussive patterns marry with a deep resonant kick to provide a rhythmic anchor, giving freeform synth motifs the opportunity to express a meandering sonic voyage that reaches a powerful crescendo at the midpoint. Hitting its stride again in the third movement with additional melodic sequencing, the result is a charismatic end to an outstanding original EP."

Cid Inc and Dmitry Molosh join forces on the 'Impending Storm' EP. Dutch maestro, Navar, provides the re-rub. 

Both respected players of progressive scene, Cid Inc and Dmitry Molosh have enjoyed exciting careers. Producer, DJ and Mastering Engineer, Swedish powerhouse, Cid Inc has releases on a whos who of labels and has played at all the leading clubs and festivals. Equally, Belarusian pioneer Dmitry has been trailblazing for nearly a decade and continues to have a gig diary taking him around the world. 

Opening with the title track, 'Impending Storm', the pairs unique influences find a perfect middle ground in subtle tribal drumwork. Gathering pace slowly over the first half with some nuanced layering, the track really fires off as the main break hits. With tension building throughout, the second half is trademark peak time. 

Next up, 'Coalition' takes a deeper path. Twinkling arps and rising pads draw you in as the percussive underbelly becomes more pronounced. Proper journey prog, the sonic tale they unfold keeps you hooked until the final beat. Finally, Dutch favorite, Navar reimagines 'Impending Storm'. Sub heavy drums and a skippy percussion framework clever sonic reconstruction, as Navar takes us down a dark, late night trail full of dirty synths and grimey intentions.

ALLEX Valkyrie

A Proton Music regular, Tim Penner, has penned a hatful of remarkable works with his inimitable, creative flow, ever-present within them. In March 2017, "Lost Again" was the most recent of these in the Canadian's portfolio, as Proton now returns to the EP with remixes from Brazil and Sri Lanka taking up the mantle.

Through his GRG moniker, George Gomes, from Recife on Brazil's north-eastern coast, has been a notable contributor to the underground dance scene for over five years. Describing 2012 as "life-changing", Gomes had built a golden reputation founded upon DJ performances across his home city that ultimately led to a residency at "Club Nox" and sets alongside the likes of Above and Beyond and fellow countryman, Gui Boratto. Finding a home for his production talents as early as 2009, the "San Telmo" EP for the Greek owned Vapour Recordings in late 2011, opened the door for further work on Stripped Digital and Cid Inc.'s Replug. Indeed, the latter saw the release of "Stretch", with remixes from Kassey Voorn and Andre Sobota. A regular on Somebody's Story, Proton Music and Flow Vinyl until 2014, collaborative work for Not Another with DNYO in 2016, as Shades of Light, brought new success before a return to his GRG moniker remixing Comuno in March 2017.

Now debuting on Particles, the GRG remix of "Lost Again" echoes the melodic themes so resonant in Penner's original, combined with a gloriously growling bass foundation that fills the lower frequency. Reprising the vocal, so prominent in the original, in a stripped back breakdown, GRG's copious additional production material and new rhythmic bed create a distinctive and intriguing new interpretation.

A relative newcomer to the commercial production arena, Sri Lankan, Dimuth K, from the country's Colombo capital on the west coast, has been "enthralled by all types of music" from an early age. Able to entrance fans with his distinctive and hypnotic sets, performances behind the decks since the age of 15 gave him confidence and creative freedom as his notoriety grew across his home city and beyond. With growing self-taught production skills under his belt, a July 2015 debut for Big Toys Production soon led to work for PHW Elements, Mistique Music and Balkan Connection. Indeed, the latter has accounted for a clutch of impressive credits centred around 2016's "Eternity" EP, with a subsequent remix of Omar El Gamal in June 2017.

As he now marks his debut for Particles, the Dimuth K remix is founded upon a precision bass groove that strikes out with dominant kick and off-beat snare. Using Penner's original elements to great effect, the central melodic ideas float into listener consciousness almost unnoticed, accompanied by stereo-swept white-noise washes. Glimpses of the "Lost Again" vocal phrasing appear tantalisingly in a dramatic breakdown, before being swept aside by Penner's emotive bass line as rhythm and melody appear once again in the third movement.

New remixes from GRG and Dimuth K ensure Tim Penner is found very much centre stage through "Lost Again".
